Rapid population growth together with improving living standards is causing bigger and more rapid consumption of resources in industrial, household and personal consumption areas. Unsustainable consumption patterns are negatively affecting our surroundings. In order to promote sustainable consumption it is important to engage consumers in active and mutual dialogue. This study introduces the construct of consumer engagement into the context of sustainable consumption and aims at revealing the factors influencing consumer engagement in sustainable consumption. Two groups of factors, internal and external, each comprising three determinants (environmental attitude, perceived responsibility and perceived behavioral efficiency; and conditions for sustainable consumption, social environment and promotion of sustainable consumption) were identified as having direct positive impact on consumer engagement in sustainable consumption, which in turn had a positive impact on green product buying. The results revealed an important mediating role of the consumer engagement construct, suggesting that application of the engagement construct in the context of sustainable consumption would allow a deepening understanding of actual consumer behavior related with different contexts of sustainable consumption.
Hedonism and its impact on consumers' behavior had become an important object of various scientific researches during the past 50 years in marketing literature. It should be noted that current level of theoretical and empirical researches on phenomenon of hedonism in the theory of consumer behavior notes that hedonism as the expression of value has not been sufficiently analyzed. Theoretical and empirical studies have demonstrated the lack of complex models integrating the relations of factors affecting hedonic value and consumers' behavior, behavioral outcomes. The scientific problem of this article is formulated with the help of the following questions: what factors determine consumers' perceived hedonic value and how, according to it, consumers' behavior varies? The objective of the article: to prepare a conceptual model of the relationship of consumers' perceived hedonic value and behavior that reveals main factors of the hedonic value and their affected direct and mediatory relations between hedonic value and consumer behavior. The performed analysis of scientific literature revealed the importance of cognition of the hedonic value and value factors. In this article three potential value factors were identified-social, emotional and epistemic. It was realized that each of value factors could influence consumer behavior and behavioral intentions. Therefore, having analyzed scientific literature, the authors of the article prepared a conceptual model of relationship of consumers' perceived hedonic value and behavior. In the conceptual model, direct and indirect relations among value factors (social, emotional and epistemic), hedonic value, consumers' perceived satisfaction and future behavioral intentions are analyzed. Considering theoretical findings, there are recommendations for future researches and empirical testing of conceptual model proposed.
The topicality of customer engagement into value creation as a marketing research object has especially grown in the context of current value co-creation studies. The current exploration shows that most works on the topic of customer engagement into value creation have been performed in the case of services. Their analysis reveals that up till now no complex research has been done that would analyse reasons for engagement into value creation of customers of services and all possible intermediate variables of relations between customer engagement into value creation and loyalty. The aim of this article is to substantiate the integrated approach towards customer engagement into value creation identifying its determining factors and relations with loyalty in the case of health care services. The compiled theoretical framework reflects the integrated approach towards service customer engagement into value creation and encompasses two groups of relations between the research constructs. The results of the empirical research show that patients' engagement into value creation is strongly influenced by communication of a clinic's doctors, and the other three factors have an average influence. It has been revealed that the influence of patients' engagement into value creation on attitude loyalty is stronger not in the case of direct impact of patients' engagement into value creation on loyalty but through intermediate variables. This is based on the research results, which confirm the influence of patients' engagement into value creation on their satisfaction, trust, and relationship strength of a clinic's doctors. All the mentioned variables influence patients' attitude loyalty, and the strongest influence is identified in the case of trust. The influence of patient's engagement into value creation on behaviour loyalty has not been identified.
Companies which offer innovative solutions to aid the achievement of sustainable consumption behavior of individuals in home environment gain a competitive advantage. The study aims to uncover the relationship between the engagement in sustainable consumption and sustainable consumption behavior of individuals at home and in the workplace environments enabling companies to provide innovative solutions to advance sustainability management. This research holds that sustainable consumption behavior is a process and the focus of this study is use behavior. An online survey was employed to collect data from 407 respondents in the United Kingdom. Consumers working in both private and public sectors were surveyed. Data analysis suggests that one dimension of engagement in sustainable consumption, namely, Enthusiasm and Attention, mostly influences sustainable consumption behavior at home and in the workplace. Further, females feature higher sustainable consumption behavior at home and in the workplace most of the time in comparison to males. Also, there are age differences apropos sustainable consumption behavior at home and in the workplace. Social Learning Theory and Collaborative Consumption Theory are used to raise hypotheses and explain findings. The findings lead to practical implications for companies regarding engagement and sustainable consumption behavior in both environments in terms of incentives, green product and service innovation that may be offered to individuals to enhance sustainability.
