Soil, water, nutrients and organic carbon losses from Inceptisol and Oxisol under natural rainfallAbstract -Water erosion is responsible for considerable losses of nutrients and organic carbon from agricultural soils. The reduction of soil, water, nutrients and organic carbon losses constitutes an important aspect of the conservation planning. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the soil, water, nutrients and organic carbon losses from a Typic Dystrochept (TD) and a Rhodic Hapludox (RH). The samplings were performed after each considered erosive rain event. The mean annual soil losses were 205.65 Mg ha -1 for the TD and 14.90 Mg ha -1 for the RH. The mean annual water losses were 369 mm for the TD and 113 mm for the RH, representing 28.67% and 8.78% of the total precipitation, respectively. The mineralogical, chemical and physical attributes and the relief where these soils occur satisfactorily explain the obtained results. The TD presents higher nutrients and organic carbon losses than the RH. The organic carbon was the main component of the eroded sediment, evidenced by the selective character of erosion.Index terms: water erosion, runoff, shallow soils, weathered soils.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of cover crops and plant spacing in the control of soil, water and nutrient of this study losses by water erosion, aiming the soil conservation. The experiment was conducted in the Red-Yellow Argisol, with three treatments of cover crops; sunn hemp, jackbean and millet, in two row spacing (0.25 and 0.50 m). To quantify the loss of soil, water and nutrients, plots of 4 x 12 m were used, and the larger dimension followed up and down slope. During the months of December and January there were the highest erosivity values, requiring in this period a better coverage of the soil surface. The jackbean was the species with the highest potential in the erosion control; and the spacing that promoted the best soil protection for all crops was 0.25 m, providing lesser losses of soil, water and nutrients.
ABSTRACTWater erosion is the main responsible for decreasing the productive capacity of soils under forest plantations and it changes the amount and the quality of water in sub-basins. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the influence of management systems adopted in Eucalyptus forest plantations (eucalyptus in contour planting -EN, eucalyptus up and downslope planting -ED, and eucalyptus up and downslope planting with burning -EDQ) on soil and water losses by water erosion and to compare them with losses in native forest (FN), pasture (PP) and bare soil (SD), in a Red Latosol (LV) and Red-Yellow Latosol (LVA), indicating which is the most critical period in relation to water erosion during the cycle of Eucalyptus forest plantation. The study was carried out in two places: Belo Oriente (LVA) and Guanhães (LV), located in 'Doce' River Valley, central and eastern region of Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Except for the SD system in the LVA, the average soil losses were below the limit of soil loss tolerance, in such regions, which are 11.22 Mg ha -1 yr -1 for the LV and 7.17 Mg ha -1 yr -1 for the LVA. The water losses in the eucalyptus systems were lower in the contour planting, in the LVA. In the eucalyptus systems, the periods immediately after planting showed the greatest soil and water losses with reduction at the final period. On the other hand, in the LVA, the bare soil and native forest systems increased water losses with the adva...

Precision agriculture (PA) is growing considerably in Brazil. However, there is a lack of information regarding to PA adoption and use in the country. This study sought to: (i) investigate the perception of growers and service dealership about PA technologies; (ii) identify constraints to PA adoption; (iii) obtain information that might be useful to motivate producers and agronomists to use PA technologies in the crop production systems. A web-based survey approach method was used to collect data from farmers and services dealership involved with PA in several crop production regions of Brazil. We found that the growth of PA was linked to the agronomic and economic gains observed in the field; however, in some situations, the producers still can not measure the real PA impact in producer system. Economic aspects coupled with the difficulty to use of software and equipment proportioned by the lack of technical training of field teams, may be the main factors limiting the PA expansion in many producing regions of Brazil. Precision agriculture work carried out by dealership in Brazil is quite recent. The most services offered is gridding soil sampling, field mapping for lime and fertilizer application at variable rate. Many producers already have PA equipment loaded on their machines, but little explored, also restricting to fertilizers and lime application. Looking at the currently existing technologies and services offered by dealership, the PA use in Brazil could be better exploited, and therefore, a more rational use of non-renewable resources.

Distribution and erosive potential of rainfall in the state of Tocantins, BrazilAbstract -The objective of this work was to determine rainfall erosivity values and to generate its spatial-temporal distribution maps in the state of Tocantins, Brazil. Pluviometric historical series from 97 rain gauges were analyzed, covering the period from 1985 to 2009. Erosivity was estimated by equations in which the independent variable was the average monthly rainfall or the Fournier rainfall index (Rc). Geostatistics was applied for mapping erosivity both monthly and annually. Annual erosivity values varied between 6,599 and 14,000 MJ mm ha -1 h -1 , with peak in December when it reached values up to 2,800 MJ mm ha -1 h -1 per month. From May to September, erosivity values had lower than the critical one, considered 500 MJ mm ha -1 h -1 per month. Three priority regions were identified for soil and water conservation planning activities: mid-west region of the state, in the neighborhood of Cantão State Park, with greatest erosivity; northern region of the state, especially during the first quarter of the year; and southern region of the state, in the fourth quarter.
