Communication Research field has an extraordinary growth pattern, indeed bigger than other research fields. In order to extract knowledge from such amount, intelligent techniques are needed. In such a way, using bibliometric techniques, the evolution of the conceptual, social and intellectual aspects of this research field could be analysed, and hence, understood. Although the communication research field has been widely analysed using bibliometric techniques and science mapping tools, a conceptual analysis of the whole communication research field is still needed. Therefore, this article introduces the first science mapping analysis in the communication research field based on the Web of Science Subject Category "Communication," showing its conceptual structure and scientific evolution. SciMAT, a bibliometric science mapping software tool based on co-word analysis and h-index, is applied using a sample of 33.627 research documents from 1980 to 2013 published in 74 main communication journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports of the Web of Science. The results show that research conducted in the communication research is concentrated on the following sixteen disconnected thematic areas: “children”, “psychological aspects”, “news”, “audience”, “surveys”, “advertising”, “health”, “relationship”, “gender”, “discourse”, “telephone communication”, “public relation”, “telecommunications”, “public opinion”, “activism” and “internet”. These areas have progressively disconnected among them, which drives to a Communication field relatively fragmented. El campo científico de la comunicación ha experimentado un enorme crecimiento a lo largo de los años, superando incluso a algunas áreas científicas consagradas. Mediante el uso de técnicas bibliométricas, podemos analizar la evolución conceptual, social e intelectual de esta área, así como comprenderla. En particular, el área de «Comunicación» ha sido ampliamente estudiada desde un punto de vista bibliométrico, pero no se ha realizado un análisis conceptual global del área englobado en un marco longitudinal. En este sentido, este artículo muestra el primer análisis de mapas científicos del área de investigación de la comunicación basándose en la Categoría de la Web of Science «Communication», centrándose en la estructura conceptual y cómo esta ha evolucionado. El estudio se ha realizado mediante la herramienta de análisis de mapas científicos SciMAT, basada en los mapas de co-palabras y en el índice-h. Un conjunto de 33.627 artículos científicos, publicados entre 1980 y 2013 en las 74 principales revistas del Journal Citation Reports de la Web of Science, han sido estudiados. Analizando los resultados, podemos destacar que la investigación llevada a cabo en el área de la comunicación se ha centrado en dieciséis áreas temáticas: «infancia», «aspectos psicológicos», «noticias», «audiencias», «sondeos», «publicidad», «salud», «relaciones», «género», «discurso», «comunicación telefónica», «relaciones públicas», «telecomunicaciones», «opinión pública», «activismo» e «Internet». Estas áreas se han desconectado entre ellas progresivamente, lo que conduce a un campo relativamente fragmentado.

This review focuses on papers on Hate Speech, particularly in legal and communication studies indexed in Web of Science. It analyzes output published in English and in Spanish as well as surveys the predominant disciplines in which these studies are written, their trend over time, by country, and type of document. This research is extended to determine the debates, lines of work of greatest interest, and the theories elaborated. The legal literature is intended to define hate speech and hate crime for the purposes of applying criminal sanctions. From the communication standpoint, the analysis of hate speech in the media is key to understanding the type of message used, its emitter, the way in which the message rallies supporters, and how they interpret the message. Spanish studies mostly fall within the legal area, in which they focus on cases of insult directed at the Catholic religion. We discuss the importance of interdisciplinarity and transversality and propose a mapping of hate speech that lends itself to comparisons between countries to assess measures to counteract their effects.

This article analyzes the possibilities of presenting an audiovisual history in a society in which audiovisual media has progressively gained greater protagonism. We analyze specific cases of films and historical documentaries and we assess the difficulties faced by historians to understand the keys of audiovisual language and by filmmakers to understand and incorporate history into their productions. We conclude that it would not be possible to disseminate history in the western world without audiovisual resources circulated through various types of screens (cinema, television, computer, mobile phone, video games)

El contenido televisivo es un reflejo de la sociedad por lo que estudiar la programación resulta imprescindible para analizar la evolución de cómo este medio ha reflejado los cambios sociales a lo largo de la historia. Para ello, este trabajo analiza la investigación sobre programación televisiva atendiendo a las redes identificadas entre los trabajos académicos. Los objetivos planteados son: determinar las áreas de conocimiento donde se publican los trabajos sobre Programación de Televisión; identificar los documentos más relevantes; identificar los temas predominantes. Se utiliza una metodología original partiendo de un conjunto de datos de Web of Science (WoS) y, mediante una técnica de recopilación de bola de nieve, se registran los trabajos más significativos incluyendo aquellos externos a WoS. Se aplican dos tipos de análisis de contenido con un fuerte componente automatizado: Análisis Bibliométricos y Análisis de Redes Sociales a documentos científicos a partir los registros de WoS Core Collection. Los resultados muestran cómo el área de Comunicación y el de Cine, Radio y Televisión conforman más del 50 por ciento del total de la producción científica. Además, se ha identificado que el artículo más relevante pertenece al área de Comunicación el segundo y tercer documento con más citas son publicaciones del ámbito de la Medicina. En cuanto a la temática, existen dos áreas: la primera estudia la programación televisiva de forma directa: historia y evolución, competencia, contenidos y publicidad; la segunda centrada en el análisis de la influencia de la programación en otras dimensiones: obesidad, violencia, racismo y estereotipos.

This chapter raises three questions: a) concerns a synthesis of the classic contributions of the reference semiotic authors that are considered when analysing hate speech in social media; b) entails presenting a case study that is analysed precisely with that analysis synthesis; c) shows the usefulness and interest of this type of analysis in investigations of hate speech. It offers a semiotic model for analysing misogynistic and xenophobic hate speech from digital news media on Twitter. The case study comprises the news published by El Mundo (Spain) from its users on social media, and the 33 comments generated, as a reason for this publication, during January 2021. This serves as the basis of semiotic analysis for understanding the phenomenon. The results visualise the semiotic analyses for understanding the dissemination of expressions. This approach thus helps reveal the levels of intensity, the denotative and connotative differences, the destructive-constructive and intertextual nature of messages, and sheds light on the different symbolic structures associated with hate speech.
