El objetivo principal del artículo basado en la investigación de la Catedral de San José de Cúcuta, ubicada en el Norte de Santander, es identificar las características simbólicas, arquitectónicas y geométricas de la cúpula, teniendo en cuenta la memoria documental y su comparación con los datos obtenidos en sitio, de frente a favorecer la construcción de un estudio descriptivo de este templo de estilo neoclásico, hito histórico y cultural en la ciudad de Cúcuta.
Este artículo se deriva de la investigación en arquitectura sagrada, bajo la dirección de los programas de matemáticas y arquitectura de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander, cuyo objetivo, en este caso fue analizar la arquitectura y la geometría de la iglesia de San Francisco de Asís en Brasil por cuanto su innovación tipológica haciendo uso de la geometría. En este proyecto con el estudio descriptivo, se analiza las variables del diseño arquitectónico para la arquitectura moderna sagrada, con especial énfasis en las condiciones particulares que hacen de la cubierta una estructura, liviana, resistente y propicia para generar una espacialidad libre de apoyos conforme a los requerimientos espaciales y estéticos de mediados del siglo XX. En este análisis se pudo observar, que, con el uso del arco catenario, se le otorga las cualidades estructurales, estéticas y espaciales que permiten valorar un revolucionario diseño.
La investigación se centra en la problemática actual de los sistemas constructivos basados en acero y concreto con alto valor contaminante que han remplazado en gran medida el uso de materiales vernáculos como la tierra en procesos constructivos, subestimando por completo los factores de sostenibilidad que el material posee. El uso de sistemas sustentable se justifica por la necesidad de nuevos modelos de desarrollo sostenible en la construcción tras la crisis energética de la actualidad, donde a nivel mundial y nacional la tendencia de su uso es positiva pero regionalmente, el Cesar refleja poca apropiación del material, por lo que la investigación presenta como objetivo general el Aplicar lógicas de optimización topológica estructural y arquitectónica a la arquitectura en tierra en el municipio de Pelaya, Cesar, logrando determinar ventajas de las técnicas de arquitectura de tapia y bahareque para optimización topológica, con resultados que sugieren la intervención de estos modelos de diseño para generar sistemas constructivos que respondan a la normativa estructural de construcción colombiana articulados con sistemas constructivos en tierra con alto confort térmico.
Este artículo surge desde la práctica docente con la asignatura de Historia de la arquitectura moderna, vinculada a la estrategia de Arquimatso, proyecto investigativo que integra la matemática y la arquitectura en la de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander. El producto investigativo expuesto en este artículo, analiza la geometría basada en la malla como mecanismo compositivo de Villa Savoye, obra cumbre de la arquitectura moderna. Este tipo de indagaciones además de aportar una metodología de trabajo para el reconocimiento de la arquitectura moderna y patrimonial, contribuye con los procesos mentales que tienen que ver con la generación y comprensión de formas, espacios y estructuras de la arquitectura.
