Introducción: La malaria es actualmente uno de los problemas de salud pública más graves en Colombia. El objetivo fue establecer las características de la Malaria en el departamento de Guainía entre 2015 y la semana epidemiológica 28 de 2017, así como la descripción de las características sociales, demográficas, clínicas y epidemiológicas, antecedentes de riesgo y las complicaciones. Metodología: investigación descriptiva. La fuente de información se obtuvo a través de la notificación individual semanal de casos al SIVIGILA del evento malaria entre 2015 y la semana epidemiológica 28 de 2017. Resultados principales: La malaria en el departamento del Guainía ha tenido una tendencia al incremento. P ara el 2015 en el municipio de Inírida se reportó un índice parasitario anual de 53, 49 y en el 2016 con 119,75 casos por cada 1000 habitantes en riesgo. 98,8% de los casos procedentes del exterior notificados por el departamento son de Venezuela. Conclusiones: La malaria en Guainía entre 2015 y la semana epidemiológica 28 de 2017 5 reporta un incremento de cuatro veces entre el 2015 a 2016 y entre 2015 y 2016 de 122%; El incremento de casos puede deberse al alto tránsito de personas en la frontera colombo-venezolana en razón a labores de minería, lo que dificulta encontrar los focos de transmisión, que se pueden encontrar tanto en Inírida, como en la zona rural de Guainía y en el estado de Amazonas en Venezuela.
