The nursing staff, responsible for the last stages of the administration of medications can detect failures and avoid them. The security in the administration of medicines is essential, therefore it is necessary to identify the types of errors and the risk factors in the occurrence of failure. This study sought to identify the causes of errors in administering medication and preventive measures. This is a quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research. Fifty-two professionals participated in this research. The administration of drugs is one of the most important activities of nursing, so the awareness of all the nursing staff that there will be no punishment in the occurrence of error should be made clear.
The quality control strategies plays an important role to nurses as they become more involved and qualified to improve the care provided. The purpose of this study was to diagnose the perception of nurses at a private hospital on the nursing quality processes applied to care improvement. This is a descriptive-exploratory study whose sample was composed by 19 nurses from care units. Results demonstrated that nurses considered the use of results from indicators to be a strategic tool for the institution, and their perceptions have confirmed the validity of care improvement practices using quality tools and indicators, emphasizing that follow up of process flaws can be a possible suggestion towards quality improvement.
Most women today are the primary, sole, or cobreadwinners for their families; their continued ability to work during and after pregnancy is crucial for their families’ well‐being. Midwives and other health care providers are regularly asked to provide work notes for patients who need adjustments to how, when, or where their job is done to continue working while maintaining a healthy pregnancy or breastfeeding. Whereas an improperly written work note can result in the patient being forced out on leave or losing their job, an effectively written work note from a health care provider can ensure the patient will receive the adjustments they need to stay safe and healthy on the job. Health care providers can also play an important role by incorporating discussions about workplace issues into care conversations. This article provides an overview of pregnancy‐related employment rights, guidelines for writing effective work notes, and a discussion of common workplace issues patients face and how health care providers can respond.
Keywordsstate paid family and medical leave laws, paid leave benefits, family caregivers of older and disabled adultsThe aging of America is shining a spotlight on the role of family caregivers. Each year, an estimated 34.2 million people in the United States provide unpaid care 1 to an adult aged ≥50, contributing "80% of the total economic value of community-based long-term services and supports for older adults," 2 with formal care settings providing the rest. State policy makers are considering a range of policies to support family caregivers, especially as they seek ways to reduce Medicaid costs associated with the care of high-need disabled and older adults (ie, adults who have multiple and complex comorbidities).Juggling employment with caregiving responsibilities for an older adult or disabled family member is particularly challenging when the caregiver is a low-wage worker who lives paycheck to paycheck and cannot take time off from work without sacrificing income. 3 Because most family caregivers are employed at least part-time, 4 two important policy considerations are leave authorization and job protection.
