El presente trabajo aborda un análisis espacial de un índice pupal (IP) de Aedes aegypti para establecer la aplicabilidad de la información geográfica y evaluar el riesgo de transmisión de arbovirosis en una localidad específica. Se obtuvo el IP y los índices de infestación tradicionales de larvas de Aedes aegypti en 366 viviendas, en una inspección del municipio de Tena (Cundinamarca, Colombia). La obtención de datos georreferenciados permitió analizar espacialmente las variables consideradas, con base en interpolaciones realizadas en un Sistema de Información Geográfica (SIG). Se contabilizaron 1.211 habitantes y se inspeccionaron 617 depósitos. Acorde con la clasificación de depósitos, los tanques bajos fueron los más frecuentes (51,0 %) y los más productivos, aportando el 93,3 % de las pupas. El índice de pupas por persona estimado en la localidad fue de 0,4. Se describe la heterogeneidad espacial del riego de transmisión de arbovirosis y de sus componentes. La implementación de la representación cartográfica de índices pupales, sumado a un análisis de riesgo de transmisión de arbovirosis, de acuerdo a la vulnerabilidad humana y la amenaza vectorial, constituyen aportes importantes a las estrategias de control y prevención, permitiendo una gestión optimizada de recursos por parte de los entes territoriales.
