Se consolidó un método para el desarrollo de prototipos de tobera para cohetes de órbita baja, compuesto de dos zonas de matriz polimérica (termófijas y elastoplásticas), reforzadas de acuerdo con su desempeño: una zona térmica (ZT) con características ablativas, endurecida por dispersión con polvo cerámico tipo I o II, y una zona estructural (ZE) con características de resistencia mecánica, con fibrorrefuerzo híbrido y con de fibras de carbono, vidrio y pizarra. Se estudian los requisitos ablativos y de resistencia estructural de 12 prototipos de tobera con diversas configuraciones, a través del tiempo de vuelo (90 y 120 segundos), es decir, las diferencias de temperatura y la pérdida de peso y espesor de los prototipos. Adicionalmente, se les evaluó el desempeño mediante simulación de las condiciones reales de operación en ensayos de tracción y de impacto por llama de oxicorte para determinar pérdida de peso, de espesor, diferencial de temperatura y cambio de propiedades mecánicas, etcétera, lo que llevó a encontrar un positivo comportamiento del sistema. La matriz que presentó el mejor desempeño térmico fue la elastoplástica endurecida por dispersión con el polvo cerámico tipo II; sin embargo, el mejor desempeño estructural lo ofreció el prototipo 9, el cual posee también una matriz polimérica.
ResumoSe desarrollaron materiales compuestos de matriz polimérica para toberas en cohetes; con dos zonas: una térmica para soportar elevadas temperaturas de combustión y una estructural que resista los esfuerzos generados. La zona térmica se elaboró con materiales de comportamiento ablativo, probados a temperaturas de hasta 2950°C durante dos minutos, los cuales fueron reforzados con polvo cerámico y/o subproducto de la industria siderúrgica (cerámico 2). Con base en los resultados obtenidos del comportamiento de térmico y de conductividad térmica del material ablativo, se construyó la zona estructural en materiales compuestos fibroreforzados (vidrio y carbono) con matriz polimérica. Los moldes se diseñaron en SolidWorks y se fabricaron por prototipado en ABS rápido y se elaboraron machos disgregables en poliuretano. En la zona térmica se usó un procedimiento de vaciado con vibración con diferentes tipos de matrices (poliéster, vinilester, caucho silicona) y de laminación para la zona estructural. Se evaluó el desempeño mediante simulación de las condiciones reales de operación mediante llama de oxicorte y quemador de ACPM, observando el efecto en la pérdida de peso, espesor, diferencial de temperatura, cambio de propiedades mecánicas, etc.; encontrándose un positivo comportamiento del sistema con matriz de resina vinilester reforzado con polvo cerámico 1 y buenos resultados con cerámico 2, así como una estabilidad en la zona estructural construida con fibras de vidrio y carbono. Los materiales ablativos son la base de los sistemas de protección térmica de equipos o elementos recuperables que, en servicio, son expuestos a elevadas temperaturas. Generalmente, estos materiales son de difícil adquisición y alto costo, lo que dificulta su aplicación en países como Colombia. Esta investigación describe la obtención y caracterización de materiales compuestos de tipo ablativo basados en una matriz de resina poliéster reforzada con materiales particulados (60-70 % en peso) y fibra de vidrio corta (5 % en peso). Como particulados, se utilizaron residuos cerámicos y escoria de aluminio finamente molidos (˂75 μm), destacando que ambos materiales son subproductos industriales. Los compuestos desarrollados fueron sometidos al ensayo de llama directa con el fin de evaluar su desempeño ablativo. De esta manera, se simularon las condiciones térmicas (1.600-2.000 °C) a las cuales se expone la tobera de un cohete de órbita baja (tipo sonda). Complementariamente, se evaluó el efecto del ensayo ablativo sobre el nivel de agrietamiento y erosión (pérdida de peso) de los compuestos desarrollados. Como medida indirecta del desempeño mecánico residual de los compuestos, fue determinada la dureza de la zona térmicamente afectada. Los resultados obtenidos son considerados de suma importancia para la producción de sistemas de protección térmica o componentes de propulsión con materias primas de fácil adquisición y bajo costo en Colombia.
El desarrollo de sistemas de protección térmica y materiales compuestos de alta temperatura para la fabricación de componentes de propulsión de bajo peso representa un reto importante para la industria aeroespacial, especialmente en el campo de la cohetería. La cámara de combustión del cohete, propulsores y boquillas deben diseñarse para soportar temperaturas de trabajo superiores a los 1600-2000 °C en un ambiente ablativo severo. Esta investigación se enfoca en la obtención y caracterización de materiales compuestos ablativos basados en una matriz de resina poliéster (30%) reforzada con materiales particulados (fillers) (67%) y fibras cortas de vidrio (3%); destacando que los fillers corresponden a residuos o subproductos industriales tipo escoria siderúrgica, escoria de aluminio, escoria de fundición y residuo cerámico. Los compuestos fueron caracterizados físico-mecánicamente y sometidos a un ensayo ablativo de llama directa (~1600-2000 °C, 120 segundos), reportando niveles de aislamiento térmico de entre 72.6-92.9%, con temperaturas máximas en la cara opuesta a la llama de entre 141.6-548.8 °C, y pérdidas de peso posteriores al ensayo ablativo de entre 8.5-13.2%. Con base en los resultados obtenidos, se eligieron los compuestos óptimos y su aplicación fue validada en la fabricación de componentes de propulsión tipo toberas de motor-cohete, las cuales fueron sometidas a una prueba estática de combustión real utilizando un propelente sólido tipo Candy KNSu (65%KNO3-35%Sucrosa). Los resultados obtenidos demostraron la posibilidad de producir compuestos ablativos y sistemas de protección térmica a partir de materiales de fácil adquisición y altos contenidos de subproductos industriales; aplicaciones que se consideran de suma importancia para desarrollar el campo aeroespacial colombiano en la construcción de cohetes de sondeo con fines científicos, tecnológicos y militares.
El desarrollo de materiales ablativos de bajo peso para la fabricación de sistemas de protección térmica y componentes de propulsión juega un papel importante en el desarrollo de la industria aeroespacial, especialmente en el campo de la cohetería, en donde el peso de cada componente está limitado por la capacidad de empuje del motor cohete (relación empuje/peso). La cámara de combustión y la tobera del motor cohete deben diseñarse para soportar elevadas temperaturas (≈2000°C) durante el vuelo, en un ambiente ablativo severo. Este articulo reporta resultados de investigación obtenidos en la Fuerza Aérea Colombiana (FAC), haciendo énfasis en la aplicación de estos materiales innovadores en la fabricación de motores cohete. Los resultados están asociados a la síntesis y caracterización del desempeño térmico de materiales compuestos ablativos basados en una matriz polimérica (tipo resina poliéster) reforzada con la incorporación de fibras cortas de vidrio y altos volúmenes de materiales particulados finamente molidos (cargas cerámicas); destacando que estas cargas corresponden a residuos o sub-productos industriales. Se destaca la posibilidad de reducir el peso del motor-cohete a partir de la aplicación de estos compuestos ablativos, con ventajas adicionales como el bajo costo y fácil adquisición de las materias primas; aspectos que se consideran importantes en aras de impulsar la construcción de cohetes sonda (experimentales) en Colombia. La investigación tiene correspondencia con el proyecto titulado “Diseño, construcción y lanzamiento de un cohete experimental (tipo sonda) con fines científicos, tecnológicos y militares, apto para el transporte de pequeñas cargas útiles (≤500 gramos)”, que se desarrolla en la Escuela Militar de Aviación “Marco Fidel Suarez” en el marco de la “Estrategia para el desarrollo aéreo y espacial de la Fuerza Aérea Colombiana 2042”.
