Resumo A Teoria das Carteiras de Markowitz (1952) bem como o método alternativo proposto por Konno e Yamazaki (1991) são usadas para a resolução de problemas recorrentes da gestão de carteiras de ativos financeiros fazendo uso de conceitos estatísticos para a composição das mesmas, com o fim de chegar à alternativa de melhor rentabilidade possível. Este projeto apresenta uma comparação entre os dois modelos apresentados com o objetivo de apontar mudanças significativas entre eles com relação ao risco de um para outro em uma amostra de validação temporalmente posterior à de composição da carteira. Para realizar a comparação, foram usados dados do mercado financeiro brasileiro, fazendo-se um teste de hipótese quanto a diferença entre o value-at-risk (V@R) ser significativa entre as carteiras compostas pelos dois métodos. O método de Konno e Yamazaki se mostrou mais eficiente para a construção de carteiras de investimento para o mercado brasileiro.
