For several years, the number of studies on the links between excessive mobile phone use and mental health has been increasing. The aim of the study was to establish if there is a relationship between mobile phone addiction and depression in university students and if phubbing is a mediator of this relationship. The authors also tested if this mediation effect was moderated by loneliness and if the model of relationships between these variables was the same in women and in men. The participants were 402 university and college students from Ukraine, aged 17 to 31; 74% of them were women. The authors used the Adapted Mobile Phone Use Habits, the Phubbing Scale, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, and the Loneliness Scale. The results of the study have shown that higher mobile phone addiction and higher phubbing is associated with a higher level of depressive moods, with phubbing functioning as a mediator of the relationship between mobile phone addiction and depression. A moderator of this mediation is loneliness, the moderation effect being asymmetrically dependent on gender: in men, high loneliness increases the mediating role of phubbing, which more markedly translates into depression, while in women the analyzed mediation effect becomes weaker with an increase in the sense of loneliness (phubbing correlates less strongly with depression).
M obile phone addiction is a robust phenomenon observed throughout the world. The social aspect of mobile phone use is crucial; therefore, phubbing is a part of the mobile phone addiction phenomenon. Phubbing is defined as ignoring an interlocutor by glancing at one's mobile phone during a face-to-face conversation. The main aim of this study was to investigate how the Phubbing Scale (containing 10 items) might vary across countries, and between genders. Data were collected in 20 countries: Belarus,
The aim of the psycholexical study was to classify the terms describing individual differences in the Ukrainian language.Method. To accomplish this objective, we analysed 220,000 entries included in a universal dictionary of Ukrainian and identified 20,024 terms -adjectives, participles, type-nouns, and attribute-nouns -used to describe human characteristics. The identified person-descriptive terms were classified by a team of five trained judges into 13 categories and subcategories. The judges' taxonomic decisions were tested for validity and interjudge agreement.Results. This procedure yielded lists of Ukrainian personality descriptors, consisting, respectively, of 2,426 adjectives, 2,255 participles, 1,653 attribute-nouns, and 1,474 type-nouns. The analysis of semantic redundancy of terms representing different parts of speech but having the same common morpheme among dispositional descriptors identified a total of 1,634 morphemes that differed in terms of meaning. The analysis identified 212 (22.0% of morphemes) type-nouns that could not be replaced by any different part of speech with the same morpheme to describe the same personality trait. Conclusions.Ukrainian personality lexicon has a comparable or higher diversity of personality-descriptive vocabulary, attested to by the presence of 96% Big Factors markers from international comparative analyses of psycholexical structures of natural languages. The results of the study contribute to the debate on universals in the description of individual differences and constitute the basis for future questionnaire-based studies aimed at identifying the psycholexical structure of the Ukrainian language. Metoda. Aby ten cel zrealizować przeprowadzono analizę 220 tys. haseł zawartych w uniwersalnym słowniku języka ukraińskiego i wyodrębniono 20,024 terminów -przymiotników, imiesłowów, rzeczowników typologicznych i rzeczowników atrybutywnych -używanych do opisu ludzkich właściwości. Wyniki. W efekcie opracowano trzy listy deskryptorów osobowości języka ukraińskiego, zawierających odpowiednio 2,426 przymiotników, 2,255 imiesłowów, 1,653 rzeczowników atrybutywnych i 1,474 rzeczowników typologicznych.
Przebadano 100 pielęgniarek i 100 osób z grupy kontrolnej.
Wartości rodzinne współczesnej młodzieży ukraińskiej w kontekście międzykulturowym Transformacje rodzinу w różnych krajach mają zarówno wspólne tendencje, jak i różnice, odzwierciedlone w wartościach rodzinnych młodzieży. Jednocześnie dla młodych ludzi idealna rodzina – to raczej rodzina o tradycyjnej strukturze z partnerskim stylem relacji, lecz z pewnym brakiem równowagi w podziale pełnionych ról. Różnice w opiniach dotyczących wartości rodzinnych mężczyzn i kobiet świadczą o znaczącym wpływie stereotypów dotyczących płci.
Objective: The purpose of the study is to analyze and define the content, specifics, and procedures of social and psychological work with citizens who have expressed a desire to become mentors for orphans.Introduction: In Ukraine, there are more than 750 foundations of institutional care and upbringing of children, in which approximately 106,000 children live. Only 8% among them have the status of orphans and children deprived of parental care; the other 92% have parents, but due to some difficult life circumstances of parents or presence of special needs or disability in children, they cannot live or be brought up in the family. It means that 92% of children without the status of orphans or children deprived of parental care cannot be adopted or placed for living and upbringing to other forms of family placement (guardianship/care, foster family, family-type orphanage). Along with this, out of 8% of orphan children and children deprived of parental care, there are no opportunities to be accommodated in any family forms of upbringing the following children: teenagers and youngsters, brothers and sisters from families with many children, and children with disabilities. In such children, close emotional relationships with meaningful, constant adults, which is a vital necessity for their psycho-emotional development and well-being, have been lost or were not formed at all. Accordingly, the introduction of mentoring for orphans and children deprived of parental care who live in relevant institutions is motivated by the necessity to satisfy the need of every child in emotional support, assistance and protection by a significant, authoritative person, and friend. Methods: The study uses an experience which was gained during the realization of the project as the author-developer of the methodology of socio-psychological work with citizens and children concerning preparations for mentoring and training for both coordinators and mentors of the Mentoring Program in cooperation with specialists of the “One Hope” non-governmental organization; in the role of educator for the preparation of coordinators for the Mentoring Program implementation, as well as in the role of expert during the implementation of Mentoring Program by the community organization “One Hope” during the 2009-2016 period [1]. Also, authors participated in developing of the mentors preparing program over orphans and children deprived of parental care in order to receive approval at the state level. Results: Mentoring for orphans and children deprived of parental care residing in institutions has been implemented in Ukraine since 2009 by the “One Hope” (“Odna Nadia”) public organization in cooperation with the Kyiv City Children’s Service and the Kyiv City Center of Social Services for Families, Children and Young People. The project “One Hope” was launched in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region during 2009-2016. Since 2016, mentoring as an individual form of support and assistance for a child living in a residential institution has been introduced in Ukraine at the state level. Conclusions: If an orphan child or a child deprived of parental care is unable to live and being brought up in a family, then the mentor’s role in the life of this child is of paramount importance. This is due to the fact that such a form of individual support through mentoring will facilitate the preparation of every orphan child for independent living in the future.
A b s t r a c t . Introduction. Research on the literature shows different and sometimes contradictory data about the physical activities of women and men. Aim. The goal of the research study is to compare selected aspects of physical activity in women and men. Material and methods. 100 men and 100 women were selected and tested using the "pairing method" and examined in terms of four variables: place of residence, education, marital status and age. A specially prepared survey questionnaire was used. Results. Men and women differ in terms of certain aspects of physical activity (especially its types), while their motivations and limitations only slightly differ. Conclusions. Women significantly more often prefer walking as a physical activity, while men prefer running, swimming, and using the weight room and gym for team sports. On working days, women have significantly less free time than men. The only motivating factor for physical activity that differentiates both groups is the "beauty" motif that is more often present in women. The groups do not differ in terms of obstacles keeping them from undertaking physical activity, although women more often reported a lack of time.
