AbstractThe aim of this study was to investigate the social skills and self-esteem in the elderly participants in social groups and to verify the correlation among the variables of the instruments used. Participated of the study 104 individuals between 45 and 85 years of age (M=66,9; SD=8,4) divided into two groups: 52 participants in social groups, and 52 non-participants in social groups. The instruments used were a questionnaire on sociodemographic and health characterization, the Social Skills Inventory (SSI-Del Prette) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSS). The results showed that older participants had higher social skills (F2 affection, F3 communication, F4 new situations and F5 agressiveness) and self-esteem, and also there was a significant correlation in the overall score (r=0,46), F2 (r=0,53), F3 (r=0,36) and F5 (r=0,39) of the social skills with the self-esteem.
Psychological evaluation instruments need to demonstrate their usefulness to respond to social problems and according to the reality of people. This study aimed to find evidence of convergent validity of the interpersonal relationship indicators and the cognitive triad of the Zulliger in the Comprehensive System (ZSC) with the Social Skills Inventory for the Elderly (IHSI Del-Prette). The sample consisted of 78 elderly individuals, between 60 and 96 years old (M = 76.07). As instruments, the sociodemographic and health characterization protocol was used, the Mental State Mini-Exam, the ZSC and the IHSI-Del-Prette. Pearson’s correlation showed significant associations of the variables of the interpersonal relationship (PER), contents (Cg, A%) and cognitive triad (R, D, XA%, S-, X +%) of the ZSC, with the general score G and the IHSI Del-Prette factors F4, F2, F3 and F1. The results show the convergent validity of ZSC with IHSI Del-Prette.
A total of 40 individuals of both genders participated in the study -ages varying between 18 and 43 years old -all of them with high school education level, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Descriptive and comparative statystical analysis were used between the gaucho group and the Brazilian normative data. The results demonstrated statistically significant differences between the samples, with an increase in the variable(s) XA%, WDA%, X+% and decrease in the variable(s) X-% and S-in the gaucho group, ultimately showing the validity of the instrument for the context of the research. Additional and follow up studies of this nature with expanded and diverse samples is needed to ensure that the established standards are appropriate for the population. The ethical principles of psychological assessment include the need to use reliable tests to meet the demands of the emerging population. Therefore, the present study sought to provide evidence of validity of the Zulliger Comprehensive System (Zulliger Test in the Comprehensive System) considering the constructs: self-perception and interpersonal relationships.
