A partir de la construcción de una serie de expectativas arqueológicas basadas en diferentes consideraciones con respecto al carácter ritual del arte rupestre, este artículo analiza un conjunto de petroglifos ubicados en el municipio de El Colegio (Cundinamarca) y su relación con otros objetos arqueológicos. Más allá de la determinación de si es o no un objeto producido y usado ritualmente, se pretende ahondar en los contextos en que los petroglifos fueron utilizados. En contraste con la tendencia a entender el arte rupestre como un objeto altamente ritualizado, y por ende diferenciado de la esfera doméstica, los resultados de nuestro análisis demuestran la estrecha asociación de los petroglifos de El Colegio con contextos domésticos y remiten a una serie de eventos cuya escala no parece ir más allá del ámbito familiar.
