Summary.-The flooding meadows in the Saiine Valley show a high diversity in plant species, with several legally protected ones. The reproduction cycle of protected species and fodder Graminaceae and leguminous plants were studied in 1993. The reproduction of some protected species ( Oenanthe fistulosa, lnula britannica, Gratia/a officina/is, Allium angu/osum) is often interrupted by cutting before the seeds have come to maturity, and protected species are most abundant in hygrophilic meadows, which are mown 2 or 3 weeks later than mesohygrophilic meadows. The successive flowering periods of different Graminaceae and leguminous plants enable to maintain the fodder value until July. Thanks to species diversity, late mowing periods are then more easily tolerable.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
