Evidence in the literature regarding the impact of radio in fuelling crises is conflicting. This study extends existing argument by testing the moderating effect of accountability partners in the relationship between Radio Biafra and participation in the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Results from a sample of 470 participants showed that accountability partners contribute 35% in predicting participation in IPOB activities while Radio Biafra contributes 32%. Additional results showed that online accountability partners contribute more (23%) than offline (12%). Additional finding implies that licenced media like radio, TV and newspaper could be unintentionally promoting IPOB activities in South-East Nigeria.
This study examined the impact of job risks on job performance and the propensity to quit journalism among 576 TV camerapersons covering insecurity in Nigeria. The result of the study showed a significant main effect of job risks on job performance, F(2,548) = 241.016, p = .001, eta squared, ηp2 = .468. Also, career longevity significantly affects the relationship between job risks and performance, F(1,548) = 28.372, p = .001. Despite attaining statistical significance, the degree of the relationship was low, ηp2 = .049. A significant statistical relationship exists between job risks and the propensity to quit journalism among TV camerapersons. A further breakdown of the result showed that the more educated, the more propensity to quit journalism and vice versa. Finally, expected rewards such as career advancement, finance, commendations, and passion for journalism are why TV camerapersons have continued to cover security issues despite the known risks involved.
The objective of this study was to examine the contributing role of socio-economic status on adherence to directives from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) separatist group. A descriptive survey was used for the study, while 325 participants were sampled using the respondents’ chain referral sampling technique. The study showed that socio-economic factors such as income, education and employment status contribute 35.5% to determine compliance with IPOB directives. The results of the multiple regression analysis achieved a statistical significance, R2 = 0.355, p = 0.001, F(3,310) = 51.524. Finally, we explored the implication of these results on Integrated Separatist Agitation Theory and highlighted the scholarly and practical implications.
