Abstract. This work deals with the separation of CO2 gaseous pollutant from gas mixtures to a water solution using the laboratory contactor. The laboratory set process parameters showed the rate of carbon dioxide transition through the interface in a so promising level the contactor separators can be considered as a very promising pathway to reduce the content of this greenhouse gas from the air.
In this paper, the authors present the pilot in situ application of nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) for effective remediation of groundwater in an industrial area contaminated by chlorinated ethylenes (CEs), which create a significant group of global environmental contaminants. This work covers the entire 1-year remediation process, including systematic laboratory tests and field application techniques for nZVI. The application was carried out in the area of a metal fabrication industrial facility in the Czech Republic. Contamination of CEs in this area is a consequence of old ecological loads. The entire remediation process contained the following steps: monitoring of the area, selection of the most relevant hot spot, selection of the most appropriate application borehole, systematic laboratory tests, application of nZVI, and postapplication monitoring. Ten kilograms of nZVI were applied as a water suspension into the selected borehole. Significant decreases in concentrations of selected contaminants were observed in the first month after application. The reaction in the borehole was completed within approximately 5 to 6 months after the application and during this period almost 50% elimination of contamination was achieved.
The use of adhesive joints has increased in recent decades due to their competitive features in comparison with other joining methods. They can be used in specific applications where there is no possibility to use alternative connection techniques. Adhesive bonding was used to assemble the prototype of a high-temperature car radiator (operated up to 125 °C) with a total of 12,240 plastic tubes. This work aims to estimate the shear strength of different adhesives intended for bonding the plastics used to assemble the above-mentioned high-temperature radiator. Fourteen commercial adhesives were tested with one thermoset plastic (G11 glass fabric epoxy sheets) and two glass-reinforced thermoplastics (polyamide PA66-GF30 and polyphenylene sulfide PPS-GF40). Tests were conducted according EN 1465 to determine tensile lap-shear strength of bonding. Testing showed that only 4 of the 14 adhesives tested exhibit substantial bonding strength at temperatures above 120 °C and only one is resistant at 180 °C. The AS60/AW60 adhesive showed the best results for all three substrates: 1.6 MPa for epoxy sheets and PA66-GF, and 1.4 MPa for PPS-GF40. Additionally, the influence of the surface treatment with cold plasma was evaluated on a clean and activated bonding surface, causing a 30% increase in the shear strength.
This thesis deals with the testing of our wet scrubber by a laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry, Brno University of Technology. On this wet scrubber, the CO2 capture efficiency is tested with a splash liquid consisting of 1 % NaOH. An overview of the system, which could increase the capture efficiency of CO2 from the gas mixture or other harmful particulates in the air, could be improved after introduction. The thesis also deals with finding methods to better capture efficiency of solid particles and gases on the wet scrubber.
