O entendimento predominante, tanto na academia quanto no mercado é de que a adoção das Normas Internacionais de Contabilidade lideradas pelo International Accounting Standards Board (Iasb) e operacionalizada por meio das International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) apresenta resultados positivos. Diante disso, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo identificar as ações convergentes e divergentes entre a implantação das normas internacionais de contabilidade subjacentes aos países coirmãos Brasil e Portugal. Para atingir o objetivo proposto, buscou-se por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica, descritiva e usando dados secundários, analisar os diversos entendimentos de autores nacionais e internacionais que permeiam o tema central. O resultado evidenciou que existem mais ações convergentes do que divergentes e significantes influências do Direito Romano ou Code Law, além de que o processo em ambos os países ainda está em construção.
