La información utilizada en este estudio fue recopilada por el Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP), la Dirección Regional de Pesquería de Loreto y la Asociación de Pescadores de Loreto. Para ser analizada, dicha información se separó en desembarques totales de la región Loreto y desembarques de la flota pesquera comercial de Iquitos. Los resultados indican que las especies grandes están siendo reemplazadas en los desembarques por especies más pequeñas, de alto rendimiento y de menor precio. Esto se debe a la mayor intensidad de pesca y a los cambios en las artes de pesca. Asimismo, se encontró evidencia de sobrepesca de crecimiento en algunas especies de grandes bagres y boquichico. No obstante ello, los rendimientos comerciales encontrados en similares niveles de esfuerzo han permanecido casi constantesa pesar de los cambios en la composición de las capturas detectadas en losúltimos años. Para el área de estudio, se determinó un esfuerzo de 0,3 pescadores por km2 y un rendimiento de 1,4 kg ha-1.
Se analizó la diversidad específica de 689 larvas de peces colectadas en los periodos de creciente y vaciante del 2012 en siete estaciones de colecta en las cuencas del Napo, Arabela y Curaray. Las larvas fueron identificadas mediante secuenciamiento nucleotídico del gen Citocromo oxidasa sub unidad I (COI). Los resultados muestran diferencias en la abundancia de larvas entre los periodos hidrológicos (165 y 524 larvas, respectivamente, en creciente y vaciante) y entre cuencas. Se identificaron un total de 11 especies. En la época de creciente, predominaron las larvas de la especie Pimelodus blochii cunchi (142 = 86,06% de la captura), en tanto que en la época de vaciante predominaron las larvas de la especie Hydrolicus scomberoides huapeta (404=77,10% de la captura). La estación con mayor número de larvas en la época de creciente fue Shapajal - río Curaray (137 larvas – 83,03%), mientras que en la época de vaciante fue Boca del Curaray - río Napo (340 larvas – 64,89%). En el río Arabela no fue registrada la presencia de larvas en ninguno de los dos periodos hidrológicos evaluados. Larvas de bagres como el dorado Brachyplatystoma rosseauxii, el saltón B. filamentosum y tabla barba B. platynemum, fueron encontradas en los ríos Curaray y Napo, confirmando la importancia de los ríos de aguas blancas en el mantenimiento del ciclo de vida de estos grandes bagres.
El paiche, Arapaima gigas, es un pez amazónico de régimen carnívoro y que en su medio natural se alimenta de peces y otros animales acuáticos. Una de las principales limitaciones que se observa en el manejo de paiche en cautiverio es la alimentación de los alevinos debido a que ellos solo aceptan peces forraje lo que eleva los costos de producción. El objetivo del trabajo fue establecer un protocolo eficaz de adaptación de los alevinos de paiche al consumo de alimento balanceado (peletizado o extrusado), procedimiento que será de mucha ayuda para los piscicultores, empresarios acuaristas y la comunidad académica de la región amazónica interesados en la cría, comercialización e investigación del paiche. En el presente estudio, un total de 48 alevinos de paiche que solo aceptaban alimento vivo (peces) fueron adiestrados exitosamente al consumo de alimento inerte (ración artificial balanceada) en un periodo de 23 días. El protocolo consta de 12 pasos y es usado en el Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP). Este procedimiento se basa en el suministro de carne de pescado fresco conjuntamente con alimento balanceado, realizando reducciones graduales en la proporción de carne y un aumento progresivo del alimento balanceado hasta que los alevinos de paiche aceptan la ración balanceada al 100%. El periodo de adaptación y las proporciones de mezcla de alimentos pueden variar y ser particulares para cada nueva experiencia de adaptación pues estos dependerán de la calidad de agua y la edad o grado de desarrollo de los peces.
RESUMENSe estudiaron ejemplares procedentes del área ubicada entre los 73º 25'-75º 25' de longitud Oeste y los 4º 30' 10' de latitud Sur, durante los años 1982-87. Se determina madurez sexual, época de desove, proporción sexual, estrategias reproductivas, engrasanciento viscerales, grado de llanura, hábito e ítems alimenticios de las especies de consumo más importantes. Como Prochilodus nigricans, Arapaima gigas, Colossoma macropomum, Osteoglossum bicirrhosum, Serrasalmus sp. etc.
Se analizaron la composición, distribución y abundancia de organismos fitoplanctónicos colectados en los periodos de creciente y vaciante del año 2012, en siete estaciones de colecta en la cuenca de los ríos Napo, Arabela y Curaray. En total fueron colectadas 70 muestras de agua (28 muestras para análisis cuantitativo y 42 muestras para análisis cualitativo) que fueron conservadas en formol al 5%. El análisis cualitativo muestra un total de 72 especies de microalgas, distribuidas en 45 géneros, 25 familias y 7 divisiones. El análisis cuantitativo indica que tanto la riqueza específica como la densidad fitoplanctónica fueron mayores en el periodo de creciente (52 especies, y 22,200 individuos.l-1) que en vaciante (41 especies, y 8,800 individuos.l-1). En ambos periodos, las Bacillariophytas fueron las algas predominantes entre las divisiones presentes con 12 000 individuos.l-1. La composición y concentración de fitoplancton en estos cuerpos de agua nos permite concluir que estos ambientes presentan condiciones normales, debido a que aún están presentes los organismos del primer eslabón de la cadena trófica.
