Humankind is faced with major global challenges to ensure the future of our planet. Target 4.7 of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (quality education) of the 2030 Agenda establishes the importance of ensuring that all learners acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to promote sustainable development through education for sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, and global citizenship, amongst others. The research presented in this article is based on an exploratory study on the views of a group of university teachers from the area of Didactics of Mathematics in the Faculty of Education Sciences at Universidad de Cádiz with regard to Education for Sustainability and its integration in the field of training future teachers in mathematics education. It aims to analyse the perceptions teachers have regarding the subject of study, the work methodologies they use, etc. in greater depth. The authors of the research later interviewed three teachers in the area of Didactics of Mathematics who teach in different education degrees: bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, bachelor’s degree in primary education, and master’s degree in teacher training for compulsory secondary education and baccalaureate. Three instruments were used to collect data: the syllabi of the subjects for which the teachers were responsible, an initial exploratory questionnaire, and a semi-structured personal interview. The instrument employed to analyse the information was the Tool for Methodological Analysis through Sustainability (Herramienta de Análisis Metodológico desde la Sostenibilidad, HAMS in Spanish). The results show the different views and positions the university teachers in the area of Didactics of Mathematics at Universidad de Cádiz have with respect to integrating sustainability into future teachers’ training in mathematics education. It is concluded that the effective integration of sustainability into mathematics education requires university teachers to change and to work together from the same perspective—the one they intend to promote.

ResumenLos futuros profesores de secundaria requieren de una formación acorde a las demandas de la sociedad del siglo XXI. Ello impone el desarrollo de un pensamiento que le permita interpretar y abordar los fenómenos de naturaleza aleatoria. El objetivo de este trabajo es determinar las tendencias de pensamiento probabilístico de los estudiantes de los profesorados de Biología de la provincia de Mendoza, Argentina. Para ello se aplicó un cuestionario a los 325 estudiantes que cursan esta carrera. El mismo consta de tres partes; la primera trata sobre las variables demográficas de los estudiantes, la segunda corresponde al reconocimiento de la aleatoriedad; y la tercera a la estimación de la probabilidad de diferentes sucesos. Las respuestas se analizaron a partir de la aplicación de diferentes técnicas estadísticas; el test de independencia, el análisis de la varianza, el test de Tukey, análisis de clusters y análisis discriminante. En primer lugar, se encontraron diferencias significativas entre el reconocimiento de la aleatoriedad y el contexto del suceso, siendo mayor en el contexto de juego que en el físico natural. Mientras que, en el contexto físico natural se afirma la aleatoriedad desde la causalidad, en el de juego se afirma desde la incertidumbre. En segundo lugar, no se encontró relación de dependencia entre el reconocimiento de la aleatoriedad y la edad de los estudiantes, como así tampoco con el nivel académico de los mismos. Respecto a la estimación de la probabilidad, los estudiantes argumentan fundamentalmente desde la equiprobabilidad y desde la contingencia. El análisis de clusters y análisis discriminante permitieron encontrar cuatro tendencias de pensamiento: incertidumbre, determinista, contingente y personalista. Palabras-clave:Estudiantes. Biología. This requires the development of a thought that allows interpreting and addressing the phenomena of random nature. [Recibido en noviembre de 2012, aceptado en mayo de 2013] Presentamos un proceso formativo innovador que intenta promover la inclusión de la educación para la sostenibilidad desde diferentes asignaturas impartidas en el Máster de Formación del Profesorado de Secundaria. La propuesta se ha desarrollado por el trabajo coordinado de un grupo de profesores implicados en la docencia de dicho máster. Se trata de promover la aproximación de los alumnos a la comprensión de la sostenibilidad y a la necesidad de su inclusión curricular en las materias que impartan en su futuro ejercicio profesional como docentes en los niveles no universitarios. Para ello se ha incidido no solo a través de los contenidos que se imparten, sino también a partir de la propia metodología empleada en el discurso del aula y la dinámica de trabajo generada en la misma. The inclusion of sustainability in the initial training of secondary teachers of Science and MathematicsIn this paper, a learning process that seeks to promote the inclusion of education for sustainability of the different subjects taught in the Master of Secondary Teacher Education, is analysed. The proposal has been developed by the coordinated efforts of a group of teachers involved in the teaching of the Master. It seeks to promote students' approach to the understanding of sustainability, as well the need for their inclusion in curricular subjects taught in their future practice as teachers in non-university. This has affected not only by the content but also taught from the very methodology used in classroom discourse and dynamics of work generated in the same. Resumen: Presentamos un estudio cuyo objetivo es justificar la necesidad de creación de nuevos espacios que permitan la comunicación de investigaciones y experiencias en torno a la Educación Ambiental y la Educación para la Sostenibilidad. Estos espacios son una vía para hacer llegar tanto a la comunidad científica como a la sociedad, información sobre la situación de crisis socioambiental pero también sobre posibles soluciones a la misma. Para aproximarnos al estado de la cuestión, se han revisado un total de 1743 artículos para el periodo 2014-2018, en ocho revistas del ámbito educativo y una del campo de las ciencias experimentales. Asimismo, se analizó la política y el alcance de estas revistas, y sus secciones para caracterizar mejor el tipo de publicaciones que recogen. Los resultados muestran que la presencia de estos temas es relativamente baja en las revistas analizadas. De manera que es necesario ampliar los espacios y posibilidades de publicación. Para ello es importante que las publicaciones existentes aumenten su receptividad a este tipo de trabajos, pero también es imprescindible la creación de nuevas publicaciones como la que presentamos en este trabajo: Revista de Educación Ambiental y Sostenibilidad.

This article presents the results of the analysis of the presence of the sustainability competencies proposed by the Sectoral Commission of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities in three degrees in the area of Didactics of Mathematics of the Faculty of Education Sciences at the Universidad de Cádiz (Spain): the degree in Early Childhood Education, the degree in Primary Education, and the Master’s degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education (specialisation in mathematics). The research method used is content analysis, reflected in the syllabi of the subjects of the degrees analysed. To carry out the analysis, two instruments were used: an adaptation of the model of the Green Curriculum in Higher Education and the map of generic competencies in sustainability of the EDINSOST project. The global results show a very low relative presence of sustainability competences in the area of Didactics of Mathematics (25%), the competency related to ethical aspects having the lowest relative presence (10%). For the most part, the competencies related to sustainability are established for the lowest level of mastery, “know”. When comparing the degree programmes, the Master’s degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education (specialisation in mathematics) is the degree that contributes the most to the development of the sustainability competency (32%), followed by the degree in Early Childhood Education (25%), and the degree in Primary Education (18%). Including sustainability in the curriculum of mathematics education in higher education can improve the training of professionals who engage in reflective and critical thinking. However, these results show there is still a long way to go.
