The development of a precast hollow pile extended with a micropile is described. A hole at the pile centre allows the subsequent installation of a micropile through its interior, extended under the pile toe. Once the pile has been driven to refusal in hard soils or rock, an increase in its bearing capacity under compression or tension, as well as a decrease in the lateral displacement under lateral loads is permitted. Cyclic axial loading tests with a rigid frame holding four tension piles surrounding a central compression pile were performed in addition to horizontal loading tests. The piles were instrumented with inner extensometers. A hardening soil was used as a material model. The piles were modelled with finite elements of both embedded and volume piles. Both types of model pile can be simulated in tension and lateral loading tests but only the volume pile can be used in compression tests due to the step existing at the joint between both types of pile. Good agreement between measured and calculated displacements was obtained and the load distributions calculated and measured with extensometers were similar.
The results of the study show an improved performance by the students who used FC. However, this improvement does not seem to be due directly to FC as a teaching technique, but rather to its motivating character, which has a general impact on student performance.
Palabras clave: competencias matemáticas, lenguaje simbólico formal, representaciones semióticas, ecuaciones diferenciales AbstractIn this paper presents a report of a research work about learning mathematical competences in the differential equations course, in which a teaching strategy that incorporates the use of a calculator. The project was carried out with students from the Faculty of Engineering, Mexicali Campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California. To evaluate knowledge of mathematics a Pre-Test and Post-Test was applied. A teaching strategy based on Duval`s semiotic representation theory was used with an experimental group of students and the traditional method used with another control group. The overall balance of the research on the efficiency of knowledge benefits the experimental group, particularly when it comes to the mathematical competencies of using symbolic and formal language.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
