Trichloroisocyanuric Acid (TCCA)Compiled by José C. Barros José C. Barros was born in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 1978 and studied chemical engineering at Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME). After spending a year in France at Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand (ENSCCF), he decided to continue his studies of organic chemistry. He is currently working toward his M.Sc. at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) under supervision of O.A.C. Antunes and J.F.M. da Silva on the synthesis of HIV-protease inhibitors.
The selectivity of the coupling reaction between iodobenzene and phenylacetylene was evaluated. Several palladium catalysts, ligands and reaction conditions were tested, showing that supported catalysts, room temperature or ionic liquids (NHC precursors) favor Sonogashira coupling, while the non-supported ones, higher temperature and PPh 3 as ligand, favor hydroarylation. Neither excess of iodobenzene nor phenylboronic acids are required; and it is possible to avoid the use of PPh 3 , although this lowers selectivity.
In this manuscript some applications of microencapsulated palladium catalysts – Pd EnCatTM – are reviewed. These new catalysts are highly active, stable, easy recoverable, and could be employed in C–C coupling, hydrogenation, ring opening of epoxides between others.
A comparative study between the most used methodologies for the preparation of piperidinyl pyridines (Buchwald-Hartwig reaction, Ullmann reaction and nucleophilic aromatic substitution (S N Ar)) by microwave-assisted piperidination of halopyridines is reported. Our results suggest that the Ullmann reaction is most effective for less reactive halopyridines, while uncatalysed S N Ar is sufficient for more reactive ones.
Recebido em 29/5/07; aceito em 10/8/07; publicado na web em 26/2/08 INTERNET AS A SOURCE OF BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION IN CHEMISTRY. The internet is an important tool for obtaining information. It offers vast amounts of information ranging from basic to advanced, from general to specific. Nevertheless, its quality cannot be classified or graded. Furthermore, some technical and/or specific information may not be available for free. This work primarily shows the great utility of the internet for getting suitable information in Chemistry and emphasizes open access and quality sites in Chemistry. It directs the reader towards many useful sites within some branches of Chemistry that provide powerful tools of research and study that may not be obtained easily at a library. Keywords: chemists' education; e-learning; bibliographical research.
Aromatic aldehydes bearing electron-donating groups are easily converted into their respective nitriles using NH2OH·HCl and TiO2 under microwave irradiation, while those bearing an electron-withdrawing group give the corresponding oximes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
