Na atualidade, 90% dos países do mundo já possuem cláusulas sobre a liberdade religiosa nos seus textos legais fundamentais. Em face desta constatação, poder-se-á perguntar: o que mais haverá para tratar sobre o tema? Não se terá atingido um “fim da história” relativamente à liberdade religiosa? Com efeito, o caso português, embora se afirme, geralmente, como um bom exemplo em matéria de liberdade religiosa, continua a desafiar esse pressuposto. É precisamente a análise desses desafios que trazemos à luz neste trabalho. Através de um questionário aplicado às lideranças evangélicas em Portugal, analisamos a percepção da liberdade religiosa no país. Concluímos que, embora haja um sistema legal bem definido de separação Estado-religiões e um regime de liberdade religiosa relativamente avançado, no caso português parece haver uma certa dicotomia entre liberdade religiosa de facto e de jure.

O desafio a que nos propomos neste artigo é comparar o movimento migratório dos retirantes do nordeste brasileiro do séc. XX, tipificado na forma poética por João Cabral de Melo Neto, com um outro, mais individual, representado por uma natureza onírica, formulado em prosa por John Bunyan, na Inglaterra setecentista. Referimo-nos à obra icónica do protestantismo do séc. XVII, “O Peregrino”. Procuramos entender que relações poderão ser estabelecidas entre ambas as narrativas peregrinadoras, tendo em conta as evidentes diferenças de estilo literário, enquadramento histórico e religioso, e intenções presumidas dos autores, e ainda de que forma ambos estabelecem um discurso dialéctico com a finitude e a morte.
A pandemia tem afetado a sociedade de forma transversal, de diversas maneiras e em todos os sentidos, mas não há dúvida de que são as crianças e adolescentes, os doentes e os idosos quem paga a maior fatura. A juventude é a embriaguez sem vinho, dizia Goethe, mas quando o vinho está azedo a embriaguez passa a doença. A recorrência das crises, os surtos pandémicos e a falta de horizontes podem estar a criar uma geração perdida. A pandemia afetou as populações tanto na vertente individual como na coletiva. Isso inclui o fenómeno religioso e a espiritualidade urbana, embora ainda não saibamos a exata medida em que os influencia e como.
Porque sentirão os crentes a obrigação de “defender a honra” do seu deus perante os que têm fé diferente, de forma violenta? Será esse deus assim tão fraco e impotente que não consegue sequer defender-se a si mesmo, ou os fiéis interiorizaram o conceito duma divindade mesquinha e vulnerável? A ideia de associar o desporto a uma atividade lúdica, como no mundo antigo (“mens sana in corpore sano” diria Juvenal), de modo a desenvolver a saúde física e mental mas também as boas relações entre indivíduos e as virtudes sociais parece estar há muito lançada por terra, pelo menos no futebol profissional. A malfadada filosofia do politicamente correto já vai no ponto de apedrejar a cultura e diabolizar a memória. A liberdade do saber e do saber com prazer está cada vez mais ameaçada. Assim, a espiritualidade urbana manifesta-se por vezes através de expedientes violentos no campo religioso, desportivo e cultural.
