The objective of this study was to evaluate the dry and fresh matter yield, height of ear insertion, number of ears per plant, plant height and the ear stem ratio, indicate the possibility of using the evaluated varieties for silage production in the Brazilian semi-arid.Key words: forage, dry matter, nutrition, ruminants, Zea mays.
Palavras-chave: digestibilidade, dióxido de titânio, ganho de peso, óxido crômico Levels of inclusion and exposure time of sugar cane to calcium oxide on digestive parameters and performance of Nellore heifers ABSTRACT -It was evaluated in this work the effects of levels of inclusion and exposure times of sugarcane to calcium oxide on the performance of Nellore heifers, digestibility of dietary components and synthesis of ruminal microbial protein and it was compared titanium dioxide to chromium oxide to estimate the individual intake of concentrate. It was used 30 Nellore females at approximately 24 months of age and average body weight of 285 ± 31 kg and age of 24 months housed in six pens (50 m 2 approximately), each one of them with five animals (feeding group). The diets were allocated in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement, containing three levels of calcium oxide (0; 0.5 and 1.0% of sugarcane fresh matter) and two levels of exposure time (0 and 3 days). There were no effects of calcium oxide exposure time on the intake of microbial nitrogen, dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) and daily weight gain, but, it affected the intake of ether extract (EE), neutral detergent fiber c...
Palavras-chave: cana-de-açúcar, carboidratos, cinética, composição químico-bromatológica Chemical-Bromatological Composition, Fractionation of Carbohydrates and in vitroFiber Degradation Kinetics of Three Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) Varieties ABSTRACT -The objectives of this work were to determine the chemical-bromatological composition, to determine the carbohydrates fractions and to estimate the kinetic variables of degradation of the fibrous (FC) and no-fiber carbohydrates (NFC), of three nutritional divergence sugarcane varieties. The studied varieties were SP80-1842, SP79-1011 and RB845257. The varieties of intermediary production cycle showed greater values of NDF and ADF compared to the variety of early cycle. The observed FDN/Pol (sucrose index) ratio was, respectively, 2.73; 2.82 and 2.25 for the SP80-1842, RB845257 and SP79-1011 varieties. The SP79-1011 variety presented smaller C and greater B 2 carbohydrate fractions (27.78 and 33.26%). It was possible to observe difference, using the gravimetric technique, for the lag time and the effective degradation of NDF, with higher values for SP 791011 variety (7.90 h and 10.30%, respectively). However, for the gas production technique, there was only a significant effect, for the estimate of the maximum gas volume parameter for NFC, with higher values for the varieties SP79-1011 and RB845257 of intermediary production cycle. The SP79-1011 variety was the one that showed better productive characteristic, composition chemical-bromatological, besides better values of the kinetics variables of degradation of the fiber (FC) and non fiber (CNF) carbohydrates. -The objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic divergence of 25 sorghum hybrids (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) in the semiarid region of Paraiba. A randomized block design with three replications was used for evaluation of plant height (PH), total natural matter production (TNMP) and total dry matter production (TDMP) and the percentage of components of DM (panicle, leaf blade, stem and dead matter) of the following hybrids: 866005, 866019, 866033, 866034, 866035, 866036, 866037, 866040, 866041, 866042, 866043, 866044, 870025, 870031, 870035, 870041, 870051, 870067, 870081, 870085, 870095, 1F305, BRS 610, Volumax, and XBS60329. Hybrid 1F305, followed by hybrid 866034, presented the highest average PH. There was a range from 7.679 to 20.948 kg/ha (average of 13,799 kg/ha) for TDMP. Hybrids 1F305, BRS 610 and Volumax presented less potential, and hybrids 866,041 and 866,042 were the most productive. Based on cluster analysis and subjective cut in 50% of dissimilarity, it was possible to establish four hierarchical groups, from which two stood out concerning productive characteristics. The group formed by hybrids Volumax, BRS 610, and XBS60329 presented lower averages for yield and lower percentage of panicle. Hybrids 866041 and 866042 show a higher total dry matter production, with values around 20,000 kg/ha.
Palavras-chave: novilhos, consumo, digestibilidade, coleta digesta omasal, coleta digesta abomasal Intake and Total and Partial Digestibility of Dry Matter, Organic Matter, Crude Protein and Ether Extract of Steers under Three Offer Levels and Two CollectionMethodologies of Abomasal and Omasal Digesta ABSTRACT -Six castrated steers fistulated in the rumen and abomasum were randomly assigned to two 3 x3 Latin squares (three animals, three intake levels [1.5 supply, 2.0 and 2.5% LW] and three periods) to compare the collection techniques for abomasal and omasal digesta in order to determine the flow as well as to evaluate the effects of the three offer levels (1.5; 2.0 and 2.5% live weight) on both intakes and total and partial apparent digestibilities of DM, OM, CP, EE and TDN. The chromic oxide was used to estimate the digesta flows and the fecal excretion. DM, OM, CP, EE and TDN intakes showed an increasing linear behavior, according to the ingestion levels. DM total apparent digestibility coefficient decreased linearly, as ingestion levels increased. DM apparent digestibility in the rumen did not differ among treatmen...
-The objective of this study was to evaluate agronomic characteristics of 32 sorghum cultivars (Sorghum bicolor (L). Moench) in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The experimental design was set up in randomized blocks with three replications. Treatments were the 32 sorghum cultivars. The evaluated variables were: plant height, stem diameter, tiller density, number of green leaves per tiller, average leaf length, dry matter content, fresh matter production and dry matter production (DMP) in kg/ha, and the percentage of the components panicle, leaf blade and stem. To avoid associative effects due to the presence of positive correlation with DMP, the variables plant height, number of plants per hectare and fresh matter production were excluded for being part of the discriminatory variables of the cluster. Based on the cluster analysis and subjective cutting in 20% dissimilarity, five groups were hierarchically set up. It was not possible to find groups with higher values of panicle and DMP simultaneously; however, group number 5 met significant values for both variables, with mean values of 15,037.63 kg/ha of DMP and 11.36% of panicle, besides 13.65% of leaf. Groups 3, 4 and 5 show high potential for dry matter production, especially group 5. The presence of evident variation among cultivars allows for a selection of more productive and, thus, more suitable cultivars for silage production in semi-arid regions.
