We construct the states of maximal localization taking into account a modification of the commutation relation between position and momentum operators to all orders of the minimum length parameter. To first-order, the algebra we use reproduces the one proposed by Kempf, Mangano and Mann. It is emphasized that a minimal length acts as a natural regulator for the theory, thus eliminating the otherwise ever appearing infinities. So, we use our results to calculate the first correction to the Casimir effect due to the minimal length. We also discuss some of the physical consequences of the existence of a minimal length, culminating in a proposal to reformulate the very concept of "position measurement."
In this work we explicitly solve the problem of the harmonic oscillator in the classical limit of a minimal-length scenario. We show that (i) the motion equation of the oscillator is not linear anymore because the presence of a minimal length introduces an anarmonic term and (ii) its motion is described by a Jacobi sine elliptic function. Therefore the motion is periodic with the same amplitude and with the new period depending on the minimal length. This result (the change in the period of oscillation) is very important since it enables us to find in a quite simple way the most relevant effect of the presence of a minimal length and consequently traces of the Planck-scale physics. We show applications of our results in spectroscopy and gravity.
Although the sin θ ≈ θ approximation to calculate the period of a simple pendulum is well-known and studied from the first year of high school, it only has good results for small oscillation amplitudes. Now, the approximations for large oscillation amplitudes are almost completely unknown by the vast majority of theachers and students of high school and of undergraduate. Hence, in this work, we review the main approximation suggestions for large oscillation amplitudes to calculate the period of a simple pendulum and we make a comparison between their results, too. Keywords: simple pendulum, linear approximations, large amplitudes. Contudo, a princípio, tal aproximação ...
A minimal-length scenario can be considered as an effective description of quantum gravity effects. In quantum mechanics the introduction of a minimal length can be accomplished through a generalization of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. In this scenario, state eigenvectors of the position operator are no longer physical states and the representation in momentum space or a representation in a quasiposition space must be used. In this work, we solve the Schroedinger equation with a Dirac δ-function potential in quasiposition space. We calculate the bound state energy and the coefficients of reflection and transmission for the scattering states. We show that leading corrections are of order of the minimal length (O(√ β)) and the coefficients of reflection and transmission are no longer the same for the Dirac delta well and barrier as in ordinary quantum mechanics. Furthermore, assuming that the equivalence of the 1s state energy of the hydrogen atom and the bound state energy of the Dirac δ-function potential in the one-dimensional case is kept in a minimal-length scenario, we also find that the leading correction term for the ground state energy of the hydrogen atom is of the order of the minimal length and Δx min ≤ 10 −25 m.
Neste trabalho consideramos alguns aspectos físicos relacionados a séries divergentes e a séries condicionalmente convergentes. In this work we have discussed some physical aspects connected to divergent series and conditionally convergent series.
