A hanseníase é uma doença infectocontagiosa de evolução lenta que se apresenta endêmica em países subdesenvolvidos ou em desenvolvimento como o Brasil. A OMS trata a doença como um agravo de atenção primária e desenvolve ações específicas voltadas à erradicação em diversos países. A pesquisa busca entender a diferença do perfil epidemiológico da hanseníase nos anos de 2001 a 2005 e 2014 a 2018 por meio da aplicação de análise espacial dos casos novos diagnosticados na área urbana da cidade de Mossoró, estado do Rio Grande do Norte. A metodologia utilizada se baseou na análise da literatura especializada, análise dos dados oriundos do SINAN e do geoprocessamento das informações que puderam ser objeto de geospacialização. Os resultados demonstram, a partir dos indicadores avaliados, que a doença se mostra em retração no município de Mossoró, mas continua sendo um desafio para a gestão da saúde, haja vista que a classificação, quanto ao coeficiente de incidência é de um município hiperendêmico, tendo áreas específicas onde há prevalência espacial dos casos e uma tendência ao espraiamento para os bairros periféricos.
