This study aims at assessing an online portal where patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) can carry on memory and attention exercises outside clinic premises. The training took place in a virtual reality (VR) setup where one TBI patient had to complete a set of 10 online VR sessions. The neuropsychological evaluation was carried out with the PASAT (Paced Auditory Serial Addition Task) at pre-, during and post-treatment assessments. The results showed an increase in working memory and attention levels from the fi rst to the fi nal assessment, which can suggest that VR applications may promote the autonomy and increase in overall quality of life of these patients. The average time for task conclusion was 5 min.
Virtual exercises to promote cognitive recovery in stroke patients: the comparison between head mounted displays versus screen exposure methods Abstract: The cognitive rehabilitation of stroke is often related to improvement of executive functioning through repeated and systematic training of memory and attention exercises, in which virtual reality may be a valid approach. Several devices have been used as visual outputs. Head mounted displays (HMD) and desktop screens displays are among them. HMDs are usually perceived as being more immersive than screens. However, the HMD presents several shortcomings if a widespread use is the objective. In this way, this study aims to assess the prospect of opting for screen displays as an alternative to HMD within virtual reality (VR)-based applications to rehabilitate memory and attention impairments in stroke patients. A sample of 17 patients with memory and attention deficits resulting from stroke were recruited from the hospital Centro de Medicina da Reabilitação do Alcoitão. The patients were randomly assigned to two different groups: a) HMD-based VR; and b) desktop screen-based VR. The patients in the experimental groups underwent a VR training program with 12 sessions of memory and attention exercises. These patients were assessed before and after the VR training sessions with the Wechsler Memory Scale for memory and the Toulouse-Piéron for attention functioning. The results showed increased working memory and sustained attention from initial to final assessment regardless of the VR device used. These data may suggest better functional independence following VR-based intervention and support the use of non-expensive displays as an alternative to high-end setups commonly used in VR applications devised for rehabilitation purposes.
Quanto maior a ingestão de Mo na dieta, menor foi o acúmulo de Cu hepático ao término do experimento (r = -0,72).Palavras-chave: carneiro, cobre, antagonistas, fígado ABSTRACT The aim of this project is to evaluate the capacity of a molybdenum-rich mineral salt in the prevention of cumulative cooper poisoning (CCP) in
The main purpose of this study was to test a VR training programme to promote cognitive recovery of memory and attention deficits in patients that suffered from an acute ischemic stroke episode. Our sample consisted of two patients with memory and attention deficits resulting from stroke. The patients were submitted to a 10 training virtual reality (VR) sessions where they performed memory and attention exercises. These patients were assessed before, during and after the VR training programme with WMS and TP scales. Descriptive analysis showed an increase in memory and attention mean scores from the initial sessions to the final sessions.
O experimento foi realizado na FZEA/USP, para tanto 40 ovinos foram distribuídos em 10tratamentos: 1) dieta basal; 2) dieta contendo Mo; 3) dieta basal+ Cu inorg + S inorg; 4) dieta basal + Cu inorg + S org; 5) dieta basal + Cu org + S inorg; 6) dieta basal + Cu org + S org; 7) dieta com Mo + Cu inorg + S inorg; 8) dieta com Mo + Cu inorg + S org; 9) dieta com Mo + Cu org + S inorg; 10) dieta com Mo + Cu There are many studies to find better results for the organic sources of minerals, and one of the reasons for that is to avoid the negative interactions. The metabolic profile helps in assessment of production indices, therefore analyzes blood biochemical components. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of organic and inorganic copper and sulphur supplementation on blood biochemical parameters in sheep. The experiment was conducted at the FZEA/USP. Total 40 weaned sheep were divided in a completely randomized design with 10 treatments: 1) basal diet; 2) basal diet plus Mo; 3) basal diet + inorganic Cu + inorganic S; 4) basal diet + inorganic Cu + organic S; 5) basal diet + organic Cu + inorganic S; 6) basal diet + organic Cu + organic S; 7) diet plus Mo + inorganic Cu + inorganic S; 8) diet plus Mo + inorganic Cu + organic S; 9) diet plus Mo + organic Cu + inorganic S; 10) diet plus organic Cu + organic S. According each treatment was added 10mg kg-1 MS inorganic or organic Cu or 10mg kg-1 MS Mo or 0.2% S inorganic or organic. The animals were fed twice a day, a total of 3% of body weight. The experiment lasted 84 days, blood was sampled every 28 days to study glucose, urea, albumin, cholesterol and triglycerides. The parameters were analyzed with factorial structure 2 x 2 x 2 (with and without Mo, organic and inorganic Cu and organic and inorganic S) and a basal diet and a basal diet plus Mo, with 5% significance. Serum levels of glucose, urea, albumin and cholesterol showed no significant difference between treatment and time (p> 0.05). It observed means of 64.8mg dL ; 72.2mg dL -1 respectively for glucose, urea, albumin and cholesterol. Serum levels of triglycerides in the treatments (28.8; 34.8; 30.8; 36.9; 34.3; 27.0; 31.6; 32.1; 34.6; 31.1mg dL -1 ) were influenced by interaction Cu x S, triglycerides decreased with Cu and S organic.
