La fragmentación de bosques y la potencial pérdida de calidad de hábitat asociada es una de las principales causas de pérdida de biodiversidad. Una de las estrategias para fomentar el mantenimiento de la misma a nivel de paisaje es el establecimiento de corredores biológicos que faciliten la conectividad estructural y funcional de los elementos bióticos. Sin embargo, la aplicabilidad y funcionalidad de esta herramienta está limitada por la falta de planeación al momento del diseño y establecimiento de corredores o redes de conectividad que obedezcan a métodos detallados y rigurosos. En esta investigación desarrollamos una propuesta teórica de conectividad ecológica para el corregimiento de Santa Elena, municipio de Medellín, Colombia, empleando herramientas de la ecología del paisaje. Inicialmente, se seleccionaron 21 fragmentos de bosque o núcleos a conectar a partir de su tamaño mínimo (mayores a 5 ha), área de interior (mayor a 1 ha) y sus índices de forma (redondeados o casi redondeados). Seguidamente, a partir de la creación de una matriz de fricción al desplazamiento, diseñamos una red potencial que permitiría conectar 1356,35 ha de nodos de bosques remanentes a través de 31 corredores ecológicos de 100 m de ancho con una extensión total de 208,33 ha. Finalmente, discutimos la importancia de fomentar este tipo de herramientas de planeación con herramientas de la ecología del paisaje que promueven la conservación de hábitats y la conectividad del paisaje en áreas cercanas a grandes urbes latinoamericanas.
Los Sistemas Municipales o Locales de Áreas Protegidas –SIMAP– son estrategias de conservación que aportan a la planeación ambiental territorial y a la conservación del patrimonio natural. Buscan integrar el ordenamiento ambiental del territorio con su gobernanza y trazan un tránsito a una gobernanza compartida entre actores públicos, comunitarios y privados. Objetivos. Analizar los retos y oportunidades de la transición a la gobernanza compartida del SIMAP. Materiales y Métodos. El artículo es producto de la reflexión colectiva y análisis con base en herramientas de estudios de caso, sobre tres experiencias de diseño e implementación de SIMAP en Antioquia. Resultados. Al examinar las transiciones a los SIMAP sobresalieron tres temas: a). Proactividad y apropiación, los actores públicos cumplen un papel clave por sus competencias ambientales y territoriales y, para asumirlo, requieren de normativas favorables y capacidad institucional; los comunitarios, requieren de fortalecimiento y acompañamiento en liderazgos y gestión; y los privados, de sensibilización e incentivos. b). Dolientes, los liderazgos de dolientes locales y regionales son indicadores de apropiación social del SIMAP, además son cruciales para mantener la continuidad de los procesos de coordinación y socialización. Se deben acompañar, fortalecer y fomentar. c). Interacciones multinivel comprenden sinergias positivas entre municipios para procesos de conservación regional y los retos entre niveles territoriales se deben a diferencias en discursos, prioridades y normativas. Conclusiones. Más que un insumo para el ordenamiento territorial, las experiencias SIMAP analizadas son una estrategia de conservación municipal que requiere fomentar corresponsabilidad propia y gobernanza compartida y atender a retos encontrados en la proactividad, liderazgo, e interacciones entre niveles territoriales de los actores involucrados.
