-In two simultaneous experiments, we evaluated the impact of brackish irrigation water and nitrogen (N) fertilization on the production of citrus (scion-rootstock combinations) and its associated gas exchanges. These experiments were conducted at the Campus of Federal University of Campina Grande, Brazil in a protected environment (shade screens on the sides) using drainage lysimeters. Experiment I used a randomized block design (3 replicates), in a 5 × 3 factorial arrangement, corresponding to five water salinity levels (0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2. . For both experiments, gas exchanges and mean mass of fruits were evaluated at harvest. Gas exchanges were inhibited in plants under saline stress. Plants grafted with Common Rangpur lime showed greater production potential than did the other genotypes studied, even under brackish water conditions.
Yield and correlations of castor bean intercropped with cowpea and sesame in semiarid region of Paraíba A B S T R A C TIntercropping represents environmental and economic benefits due to production diversity on the farm. A B S T R A C TThis study aimed to evaluate the salt tolerance of 'Mimo do Céu' orange grafted onto three rootstocks using physiological parameters such as maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem II (PSII) and the production of fruits. It also evaluated the effectiveness of increased nitrogen (N) fertilization in reducing the effects of salt stress. Two concomitant experiments were carried out under controlled conditions, using drainage lysimeters. The Experiment I evaluated the effects of the application of five levels of saline water on three combinations of scion-rootstocks grafted with 'Mimo de Ceu' orange, in a randomized block design with three replicates in a 5 x 3 factorial scheme. The Experiment II evaluated the application of two N levels (100 and 200% of recommendation) in three scion-rootstock combinations irrigated with water of electrical conductivity of 3.0 dS m -1 , in a 3 x 2 factorial scheme, with three replicates. The maximum quantum efficiency of PSII was inhibited in citrus plants under salt stress. 'Mimo do Ceu' orange grafted onto 'Common' Rangpur lime has higher yield potential. The increase in N dose did not reduce the deleterious effects of water salinity on fruit production.

S. de.DAMAGE IN CELL MEMBRANE AND CHLOROPHYLLIAN PIGMENT OF CITRUS UNDER SALINE WATER AND NITROGEN FERTILIZATION 2 ABSTRACT In order to evaluate the cell membrane damage and the chlorophyll content of citrus scion-rootstock combinations under irrigation with saline water and nitrogen fertilization, two concomitant experiments in drainage lysimeters were performed. In Experiment I, five levels of saline water -ECw (0.6; 1.2; 1.8; 2.4; 3.0 dS m-1) applied to three combinations of scion-rootstock (PE1-TSKC x TRENG-256; PE2 - LCRC and PE3 - TSKC LCRC x P. trifoliata -059) with ‘Mimo-do-céu’ orange as scion were analyzed in a randomized block design with three replications in a 5 x 3 factorial scheme. In Experiment II the application of 200% of recommended nitrogen dose were applied in plants irrigated with ECw = 3.0 dS m-1 and results were compared to those obtained from plants irrigated with 100% recommended nitrogen fertilization of the first experiment, in factorial arrangement 3 x 2, corresponding to three combinations of scion-rootstock and two nitrogen levels, with three replications. The plants grafted with 'Rangpur Common' lime presented the best results for the relative water content (TRA) and electrolyte leakage, however, based on these variables, they are the most sensitive to salinity. The PE1 (TSKC x TRENG - 256) is the genotype that provides higher tolerance based on the TRA and the electrolyte leakage. Saline stress reduced levels of chlorophyllian pigments of citrus. Cellular damage was reduced when higher amounts of nitrogen are applied. Keywords: Citrus spp. Biochemistry. Salinity stress. ‘mimo-do-céu'.
The use of biomass can contribute to improve the soil properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of fertilization with poultry litter biochar in combination with mineral fertilizer on soil chemical attributes, growth and yield components of sunflower. For this purpose, a greenhouse experiment was carried out in pots with a capacity of 20 dm 3 under randomized design, with treatments arranged in a factorial 5 × 4 design with four replicates. The treatments consisted of five doses of mineral fertilizer (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% fertilization recommendation) with NPK (100, 300, and 150 mg kg -1 ) and four doses of biochar of poultry litter, 0; 5% (400 g/pot); 10% (800 g/pot) and 15% (1,100 g/pot) calculated based on the volume of the soil. The results showed that fertilization with poultry litter biochar of 400 g/pot, increased soil salinity of the experimental units. Besides, there was a reduction in the number of leaves (NL), plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD) and number of achenes for each head (NAH). Fertilization with 50% of NPK recommendation (50:150:75 mg kg -1 ) produced the highest growth and yield components of sunflower, compared with other NPK treatments. The combination from 50:150:75 mg kg -1 (50%) of NPK fertilization and 1,100 g/pot of poultry litter biochar promoted larger head diameter (HD) of sunflower.
