Se define la trayectoria educativa como la serie de sucesos con una índole educativa, ya sea formal o informal, que construyen a cualquier individuo y que, a su vez, tienen una influencia en su preparación y desempeño laboral o su cargo profesional. La trayectoria hace referencia a las diferentes etapas que vive el individuo después la finalización de su formación en una determinada profesión o al ser insertado en una actividad laboral u oficio. Los estudios de trayectoria académica y laboral se han constituido en una opción metodológica que permite describir con mayor profundidad las condiciones de los egresados en su desarrollo laboral que son ofrecidas en el mercado de trabajo. El objetivo del presente estudio es analizar las trayectorias educativas de los egresados. La mayoría de los egresados desarrolla una sola función, como es la de trabajar, pocos fueron los egresados que ocupan la mayor parte del tiempo en desarrollar actitudes simultáneas en su ámbito profesional.
Más allá de dar respuestas a los requerimientos que en torno al seguimiento a egresados exige el Ministerio de Educación Nacional (MEN), para las universidades a distancia es de particular interés valorar la calidad de los servicios académicos que presta a la comunidad determinando si existen diferencias significativas en las trayectorias sociales, laborales y educativas de los egresados y los factores que han incidido en su movilidad social e impacto durante los primeros cinco años de grado. De esta manera, y durante los años 2020 y 2021, se desarrolló un estudio de movilidad de egresados, con enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental y longitudinal de tendencias, para caracterizar las trayectorias sociales y situación laboral de los egresados e identificar los factores que inciden en la movilidad social, fortaleciendo las estrategias existentes para el seguimiento de los egresados que conlleven a identificar acciones de mejora y con ello garantizar el impacto de este en el contexto. Este libro consta de cinco capítulos, los cuales describen la ruta y hallazgos de la investigación mencionada. Inicia con las particularidades de la modalidad de educación a distancia, enriquecidas con las precisiones teóricas entorno a la movilidad social, para posteriormente establecer las relaciones entre las trayectorias sociales y la situación laboral entre otros factores incidentes en la movilidad y, finalmente, trazar las trayectorias educativas de los egresados de la Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia – UNAD entre el 2014 y el 2018.
La educación a distancia surge en los años 50 para brindar respuesta a las necesidades de formación y cualificación docente, para tener opciones adaptadas a la educación para adultos y poblaciones diversas, así como para los procesos de alfabetización, solamente orientado y regulado por el Estado a través de sus ministerios o de instituciones privadas con recursos para hacer los pilotajes necesarios, generalmente bajo cooperación externa. La educación a distancia es una respuesta a las necesidades educativas del siglo XXI, por lo que los egresados/as de una universidad de modalidad a distancia deben estar igualmente capacitados que un egresado/a de modalidad tradicional o presencial, pero tendrán diferencias en el manejo de mediaciones tecnológicas (en ventaja) y seguramente habrán transcurrido una trayectoria educativa diferente que influya en su movilidad social.
