Resumo: A atividade física é um dos principais componentes do estilo de vida saudável. O conhecimento acerca dos fatores que motivam este hábito é essencial para sua manutenção. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar e comparar as motivações de praticantes eede diferentes tipos exercício em academias. Participaram da pesquisa 67 adultos, que responderam ao instrumento IMPRAFE-54. O que mais os motivava a prática regular era o prazer, seguido de saúde, estética, controle de estresse, sociabilidade e, por último, competitividade. Os indivíduos que praticavam exercício aeróbio se motivavam mais pela estética que os do grupo exercício resistido (p<0,05). Os praticantes de exercício anaeróbio se motivavam mais por competitividade (p<0,05) e estética (p<0,05) do que os que praticavam exercício resistido.
