Catalysis by Phthalocyanines, XXII 1). -Influence of Solvent on the Decomposition of 7-Cumyl Hydroperoxide in the Presence of Cobalt PhthalocyanineThe decomposition of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide (CHP) in the presence of cobalt phthalocyanine (Co-pc) in the solvent systems decalin/l -chloronaphthalene and m-chlorotoluene/ 1-chloronaphthalene follows second order kinetics in the absence of N-(2-naphthyl)aniline (NA), but first order kinetics in the presence of the inhibitor. The rate constants and the ratio of molecular decay to decomposition into free radicals depends on the composition of the solvent systems. -The products arising from N-(2-naphthyl)aniline are isolated and their influence on the reaction is studied. -The mechanism of the decomposition of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide is discussed. Catalysis by Phthalocyanines, XXVI1). -Decomposition of Hydroperoxides on Iron and Cobalt PhthalocyanineThe decomposition of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide and tert-butyl hydroperoxide on iron or cobalt phthalocyanine in l-chloronaphthalene, 1-bromonaphthalene and 3-chlorotoluene proceeds with evolution of oxygen and according to second order kinetics (Figures 2 and 3; Tables 1 -3 and 7); the yield of oxygen is not quantitative (Figure 1, Tables 1 -3 and 7). Evolution of oxygen is not observed in 1-methylnaphthalene and decalin. -In the presence of N-(2-naphthy1)aniline the oxygen yield decreases with increasing concentration of the inhibitor (Table 4). The inhibitor efficiency is influenced by substituents in the phenyl group (Table 5), a Hammett relation being fulfilled in the case of 3-C1 and 4-C1 or CH,O (Figure 4). -2-Benzyl-2-propyl hydroperoxide decomposes without evolution of oxygen. The decomposition rate on cobalt phthalocyanine is influenced by the composition of the solvent systems (1-chloronaphthalene/decalin, l-chloronaphthalene/3-chlorotoluene, 3-~hlorotoluene/decalin) ( Table 6). -The mechanism of the decomposition of the hydroperoxides, especially the stabilizing reactions of the radicals, and the attack of the inhibitors is discussed in the light of previous results. *) Korrespondenz bitte an diesen Autor richten.
The decomposition of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide catalyzed by cobalt phthalocyanine in the solvent system decalin-3-chlorotoluene (40°C) follows the 2nd order kinetics in the absence of N-(2-naphthyl)aniline and that of the 1st order in the presence of the inhibitor. The effect of composition of the solvent system on the rate constants and on the quotient of the initial rates in presence and in absence of inhibitor and the mechanism of the decomposition are discussed. Nickel phthalocyanine has an inhibiting effect on the decomposition of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide in the solvent systems decalin-1-chloronaphthalene and 3-chlorotoluene-1-chloronaphthalene (120°C). Decomposition starts after addition of N-(2-naphthyl)aniline. After an autocatalytical phase the reaction follows 1st order kinetics. The rate constants depend on the composition of the solvent system. The temperature dependence of the decomposition on 1-chloronaphthalene was determined. The anomalous slope of the Arrhenius plot is discussed.
Catalysis by Phthalocyanines, XXIII 1). -Influence of Solvent on the Decomposition of 7-Cumyl Hydroperoxide in the Presence of Copper Phthalocyanine a-Copper phthalocyanine (a-Cu-pc) has only little effect on the decomposition of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide (CH P) in the solvent systems decalin/l -chloronaphthalene and m-chlorotoluene/l-chloronaphthalene (1 10°C). Decay starts on addition of N-(2-naphthyl)aniline (NA) after an autocatalytic phase, the reaction follows first order kinetics. An m+@ conversion of the copper phthalocyanine is also observed. The rate constants depend on the composition of the solvent systems, i. e. on their polarity and viscosity. Moreover the influence of solvent structures requires discussion. -The rate of the thermal decay of 7-cumyl hydroperoxide in the presence of N-(2-naphthyl)aniline also depends on the solvent composition. -The effect of N-(2-naphthyl)aniline and its reaction products on the decomposition catalyzed by copper phthalocyanine is examined. -The mechanism is discussed. 1) XXII
