ResumenLas crisis económicas de México de las últimas 3 décadas tienen como una de sus manifestaciones más graves la pérdida de empleos. Por eso en este trabajo nos proponemos como objetivo mostrar los efectos que han tenido las crisis en México en el crecimiento económico, el mercado laboral, en la desigualdad y en la pobreza desde los años de 1980, pasando por la globalización de los años de 1990 y la financiera reciente. Los resultados encontrados dan cuenta del incremento de la informalidad, la desigualdad y la pobreza a lo largo del período, que coincide con el modelo neoliberal, aplicado para combatir las crisis; por lo tanto, se debe considerar seriamente un cambio de las políticas económicas y sociales hasta ahora aplicadas. Se requiere de reformas económicas más de fondo que impulsen la demanda de trabajo y con ello incrementar empleos mejor remunerados, que beneficien a los individuos de los grupos bajos, con lo que podría reducirse el desempleo, la desigualdad y la pobreza, que ha flagelado a la mayoría de la población de México.
Este trabajo pretende identificar la existencia de convergencia, tanto absoluta como condicional, para los municipios que conforman el estado de Sonora. Tomando como base el ejercicio metodológico de Mankiw, Romer y Weill (1992) que consideran primero el modelo de Solow (1956) y luego le hacen una ampliación incluyendo el capital humano, se encontró evidencia de que no hay una tendencia a que los municipios pobres crezcan más rápido que los municipios ricos, lo que significa que no hay un proceso de convergencia –ni absoluta ni condicional– en los municipios de Sonora, independientemente del estrato de desarrollo en el que éstos se encuentren clasificados: municipios con desarrollo alto, medio o bajo.
Este trabajo analiza las desigualdades espaciales en el desarrollo socioeconómico regional de Sonora. Para este propósito, se diseña un modelo estadístico y se recurre a la técnica de análisis factorial de componentes principales, lo que permite estimar un Índice de Desarrollo Socioeconómico Municipal (IDSEM) para el año 2000, lo cual hace evidente la concentración geográfica del desarrollo regional en Sonora. También se especificó un modelo econométrico que permitió identificar los factores que obstaculizan o incentivan el desarrollo socioeconómico de la población en los municipios del Estado. En este trabajo se muestra el limitado impacto del programa Oportunidades en la reducción de la pobreza en México y Baja California durante el periodo de estudio 2002–2006, lo que obedece a la insuficiencia de recursos y la exclusión de hogares pobres. En el país los tres tipos de pobreza tuvieron una modesta reducción y en Baja California la pobreza de capacidades disminuyó ligeramente, pero la pobreza alimentaria y la patrimonial se incrementaron pese a Oportunidades.
