Este trabajo analiza las desigualdades espaciales en el desarrollo socioeconómico regional de Sonora. Para este propósito, se diseña un modelo estadístico y se recurre a la técnica de análisis factorial de componentes principales, lo que permite estimar un Índice de Desarrollo Socioeconómico Municipal (IDSEM) para el año 2000, lo cual hace evidente la concentración geográfica del desarrollo regional en Sonora. También se especificó un modelo econométrico que permitió identificar los factores que obstaculizan o incentivan el desarrollo socioeconómico de la población en los municipios del Estado.
