According to the Urban Mobility National Policy (UMNP), Brazilian cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants are obligated to elaborate Urban Mobility Plans (UMPs). The literature shows a lack of national research on urban freight planning and a need for better understanding issues on cargo transportation for authorities, especially regarding decision-making on policies and on urban freight transportation planning. City Logistics solutions can be considered on UMPs to reduce the problematic urban freight transport. Therefore, a survey was applied to investigate the resources available within cities to draw UMPs, the solutions for cargo movement in Brazilian cities, and the perceptions of public managers about freight transportation. The results show that “restrictions” are the solutions most adopted by Brazilian authorities, including the representative sample for cities within the São Paulo State with more than 250,000 inhabitants. The conclusions point out that Brazilian cities are not prepared to develop an efficient urban freight plan, as public managers seem to be unconscious about urban logistics demands within their cities or have neglected aspects regarding urban freight within the UMNP.
O Brasil é o maior produtor de cana-de-açúcar do mundo, sendo responsável pela geração de 3 milhões de empregos em toda a sua cadeia de suprimentos. A alimentação constante das moendas durante o período de safra depende do bom gerenciamento das operações de corte, carregamento e transporte de cana-de-açúcar das fazendas para as usinas. A entrega de cana-de-açúcar deve ser garantida para que o risco de parada da produção industrial de açúcar e álcool seja evitado. Este trabalho foca o desenvolvimento e a utilização de um modelo de simulação discreta para a determinhação do sistema de turnos de trabalho dos operadores de equipamentos agrícolas de uma usina no Estado de São Paulo, considerando os requisitos de moagem, o risco da falta de matéria-prima e o limite permitido das jornadas de trabalho. Quatro cenários foram propostos para avaliação, sendo o primeiro com a troca de turnos unificada às 7 e às 19 horas; e os demais com a entrada em operação de uma das frentes de corte e carregamento com 2, 4 e 6 horas de defasagem em relação às demais frentes (escalonamento). O cenário com escalonamento de quatro horas de defasagem apresentou o melhor desempenho ao conciliar a entrega de cana, as jornadas de trabalho e o risco de desabastecimento. A discussão é focada no caso selecionado, mas estudos similares podem ser aplicados a outras usinas de açúcar e álcool ou a outros processos do setor sucroalcooleiro.
The concept of Industry 4.0 was first introduced in Germany in 2011. Also called as the 4th industrial revolution, this concept is based on digitization and integration of physical and digital media, focusing on the automation of production processes and integration across the value chain. Due to the fast development of Industry 4.0 in the last few years, this study performed a SWOT-based analysis to assess strategic points to develop and apply digital technologies in the companies situated at the SMR – Sorocaba Metropolitan Region (São Paulo State, Brazil). A literature review was developed on Industry 4.0 conception and its main technologies: Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of Things, Intelligent Factories and Big Data. Findings from the literature review were used to develop an exploratory questionnaire (survey), which was applied to SMR’s companies’ representatives. After that, a SWOT matrix was applied, to generate action plans to facilitate the insertion of Industry 4.0 in the companies from the SMR, based on offensive, confrontational, reinforcement and defense strategies selection. The strategies proposed on this paper should be used as an input for public political issues in the SMR, and they could also be expanded to other regions in Brazil as short and long-term strategies.
