-(Richness, structure, and edaphic interactions in the restinga gradient of Parque Estadual do Acaraí, Santa Catarina State, Brazil). The present work characterized the flora and phytocommunities of a restinga gradient on the coast plain of Santa Catarina State and correlated them to edaphic attributes. The floristic survey followed the wide patrolling method and the community structure was determined through the plot method. Soil samples of each physiognomy were collected for analysis of macronutrients, organic matter, moisture, and litter thickness. Flora comprises 319 species, 244 of which occur exclusively in formations of herbaceous restinga (63), shrub restinga (32), shrub-tree restinga (46), and transition forest (103). The structural pattern of each restinga physiognomy studied was influenced by edaphic factors as organic matter, potassium, and aluminum contents, cation exchange capacity, and litter thickness. These attributes are determinant for the flora characterizing each phytocommunity.
-(Phenotypic variations of Andira fraxinifolia Benth. (Fabaceae) from two Restinga sandbank formations). The study analyzed the variability of morphological trait variability of Andira fraxinifolia from two different Restinga formations. The study was conducted at Acaraí State Park, São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil, in areas of shrubtree Restinga and Forest transition. Five individuals were selected on each area in order to characterize their height, trunk diameter at breast height, leaf morphological traits, and stem anatomical traits. Andira fraxinifolia presented phenotypic variations between the studied areas; leaf dimensions and the plant size being the most significant variations. The structural adjustments of these traits can be adaptive, allowing the plant survival in areas with distinct environmental conditions. Keywords: adaptive adjustments, "angelim", ecotypes, heterogeneous environments RESUMO -(Variações fenotípicas em Andira fraxinifolia Benth.
(Leguminosae): ecological interpretations based on different soil conditions in the Cerrado. Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. (Caesalpinioideae, Leguminosae) is a tree known as copaíba that is widely distributed in Brazil. The present paper discusses, from an ecological perspective, leaf structural changes in populations of copaíba found growing in three different substrates in the Cerrado: alluvial neosoil on riverbanks, sandstone and red latosol in savanna. Qualitative and quantitative leaf traits were observed from permanent histological preparations. Statistically significant differences were observed in all of the ecological parameters analyzed, such as specific leaf area, tissue thickness and stomatal density. A
AbstractPlastic responses in plants can be induced by spatial heterogeneity, being the restinga a supportive ecosystem to understand these responses due to its limiting environmental conditions. This study evaluated so compared the leaf plastic responses in two populations of Tibouchina clavata (Melastomataceae) inhabiting the herbaceous and forest formations of the restinga Acaraí State Park, located in São Francisco do Sul-SC. In the ten individuals sample of each formation were measured leaf morphoanatomic attributes and stem. Environmental variables such as edaphic nutrition, gravimetric moisture and light radiation were measured. Mean values for each variable were compared by the Student t test. For each attribute, it was calculated phenotypic plasticity index. Morphological and anatomical attributes differentiate the two populations together, and the population of herbaceous formation typically xeromorphic due to more stringent environmental conditions. More favorable terms given by the increased supply of nutrients and water in the forest environment provided greater investment of growing individuals. Anatomical attributes were shown little plastic when compared to the morphological. T. clavata it proved to be a morphologically plastic kind that allows the understanding of the effects of the limiting factors of the restinga on plant development, with emphasis on nutrition, ...
RESUMO -O presente estudo verificou comparativamente a plasticidade de Clusia criuva Cambess., Myrsine venosa A. DC., Ocotea pulchella (Nees e Mart.) Mez, Pera glabrata (Schott) Poepp. Palavras-chave: anatomia de madeira, morfologia foliar, respostas plásticas ABSTRACT -Leaf and wood plasticity of fi ve restinga species in two areas of the South Brazil. This study examined comparatively the plasticity of fi ve " lenhosas" species occurring in two areas of salt marsh in Santa Catarina State, as follow: Clusia criuva Cambess., Myrsine venosa A. DC., Ocotea pulchella (Nees e Mart.) Mez, Pera glabrata (Schott) Poepp. Ex Baill and Ternstroemia brasiliensis Cambess. Functional attributes of leaf and stem were measured, and in the fi eld trees' height and diameter were taken at breast height. The environmental heterogeneity was characterized by chemical analysis of the soil, thickness of litter and gravimetric moisture. For each morphological and anatomical attribute the phenotypic plasticity index was calculated. Leaf traits showed variation among the areas in all studied species, especially regarding specifi c leaf area. Wood attributes changed little, showing a higher inheritability of characters or similar responses to the water condition from the point of view of water resources' use of. The results corroborate to other studies indicating that leaf is more plastic to habitats variations.
The restingas are coastal ecosystems over the sandy Quaternary plains. Their vegetation present flora and structure conditioned mainly by edaphic factors. They vary from grasslands, shrub lands up to woody forests. Their environmental conditions, such as water stress and high solar irradiance, may be associated to a high richness of galling. This study aims to identify the insect-plant interactions of the gall type, in a shrub-tree restinga formation at the Acaraí State Park, situated in São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina State. The survey was conducted in four plots of 250 x 5 m (5,000 m²) of the PELD/PPBio module, with a sample effort of 32 hours. There were found 56 morphospecies of galls in 31 species of host plants. Lauraceae, Myrtaceae, Melastomataceae, Nyctaginaceae and Calophyllaceae showed the highest number of interactions. Guapira opposita (Nyctaginaceae) and Calophyllum brasiliense (Calophyllaceae) were the major super-hosts. There was a predominance of isolated globoid galls on leaves, induced by Diptera -Cecidomyiidae. Galls on stems were less abundant. The focus of this inventory was restricted to the aerial parts of the plants, which limited the galls records on roots, for which there were records only in adventitious roots of the epiphyte Philodendron surinamense. The richness of galls seems to be proportional to the richness of plant species in this restinga formation. Keywords: Cecidomyiidae; coastal vegetation; plant-insect interaction; super-hosts.
The coast of Balneario Piçarras city (Santa Catarina) is being constantly degraded by human action. This study aimed to characterize the richness and vegetation structure of two areas of herbaceous restinga (preserved and degraded) of the coastal plain of this city. The flora was mapped by using the patrolling method. Identification was done by comparative morphology and specialized bibliography. The phytosociology was based on the plot method with allocation oriented parallel to the coast line. There were 48 species, 44 genera and 22 families identified. Fabaceae, Asteraceae and Poaceae are the richest families. The H' index was 3.9 in the preserved area and 2.1 in the degraded area. The community structure was represented by eight and 16 species in the degraded and preserved areas, respectively. In degraded areas, species as Spartina ciliata, Ipomoea pes-caprae, Sphagneticola trilobata and Paspalum vaginatum have the greater importance of coverage, structuring the community. In the preserved area, the organization structure of the community is given by Canavalia rosea, Remirea maritima, Stenotaphrum secundatum, Spartina ciliata and Acicarpha spathulata species. These species are considered pioneers and with a great potential of fixing dunes, which reflects their importance to the achievement of a future restoration work of the damaged area of the restinga in question. Keywords: Coastal plain; floristic; phytosociology; recovery of degraded areas.
