RESUMO -Para a efetivação das áreas de preservação permanente (APPs) e de reserva legal (ARL) nas propriedades rurais, dando cumprimento à legislação, é de extrema importância que elas sejam quantificadas, determinandose o porcentual que ocupam nas propriedades e o que representam essas áreas na atividade econômica dos produtores rurais. Dessa forma, este trabalho teve por objetivo quantificar as APPs e ARL com relação à área total das propriedades rurais pesquisadas. Determinaram-se também a área com vegetação nativa em cada propriedade e as APPs que estavam de acordo com a legislação. Utilizou-se de uma amostra composta por 47 propriedades, divididas em seis estratos, tendo como critério de estratificação o tamanho da área de cada uma delas. A coleta de dados foi realizada com o uso de GPS e a quantificação, com a utilização do SIG ArcView 3.3. Com base nos resultados, observou-se que as 47 propriedades estudadas ocupavam uma área de 1.854.35 ha, dos quais 811,35 ha, referentes a 43,75% do total, eram APPs e ARLs, de acordo com as legislações federal e estadual. Além disso, em apenas 21,09% dessas áreas não ocorria o uso indevido do solo, evidenciandose o não-cumprimento da lei e a necessidade de medidas efetivas para a sua adequação.Palavras-chave: Áreas de preservação permanente, área de reserva legal e legislação ambiental. ABSTRACT-The macaúba palm (Acrocomia aculeata) has a great production potential of oil and is an important alternative to diversify agricultural production. In view of the hypothesis that the species may provide a positive contribution to the hydrological processes in a watershed, we aimed to assess the influence of the number of leaves per macaúba plant on the correlation between stemflow and gross precipitation. We installed three rain gauges to monitor gross precipitation in an experimental area, and stemflow collectors on the stem of eight macaúba plants therein having 10, 13, 18, and 22 leaves. Linear regression equations were obtained, which enabled us to estimate the minimum rainfall volume required for the occurrence of stemflow. A strong positive linear correlation was observed between stemflow and gross precipitation, regardless of the number of leaves per plant. The morphological characteristics of the macaúba palm favor rainfall interception, relatively high stemflow values being shown even in young plants. The funnel-shaped crown enabled the conduction of large rainfall volumes to the stem, thus resulting in the occurrence of stemflow even with light precipitations.Keywords: Forest hydrology; Rainfall interception; Infiltration.INFLUÊNCIA DO NÚMERO DE FOLHAS DA PLANTA DE MACAÚBA Acrocomia aculeata (Jacq.) NA CORRELAÇÃO ENTRE ESCOAMENTO PELO TRONCO E A PRECIPITAÇÃO EM ABERTO RESUMO -Considerando o potencial produtivo da macaúba (Acrocomia aculeata), sua importância como alternativa na diversificação da produção agrícola, e tendo como hipótese uma positiva contribuição nos processos hidrológicos de uma bacia hidrográfica, este estudo teve por objetivo conhecer a influência do número de folhas da planta na correlação entre o escoamento pelo tronco (Et) e a precipitação em aberto (PA). Foram instalados três pluviômetros para o monitoramento da precipitação em aberto e coletores de escoamento pelo tronco no caule de oito plantas de macaúba com 10, 13, 18 e 22 folhas. Foram obtidas equações de regressão que permitem estimar a partir de qual volume de chuva o escoamento pelo tronco se torna presente. Foi observada forte correlação linear positiva entre a precipitação em aberto (PA) e o escoamento pelo tronco (Et), independente do número de folhas por planta. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram: (1) realizar a caracterização ambiental da bacia do Rio Manhuaçu e das principais sub-bacias; (2) descrever as atividades de gestão relacionadas ao manejo dentro da bacia do Rio Manhuaçu e propor medidas que favoreçam a restauração florestal de APPs de nascentes. Foi utilizado um mosaico ASTER/DEM, com 30m de resolução espacial e extraído hidrografia numérica da bacia e posterior delimitação das sub-bacias acima de 4ª ordem. Visitas as principais sub-bacias foram realizadas para melhor caracterização e descrição. A bacia do Rio Manhuaçu possui 8.805,33 km² de área e é uma das principais sub-bacias do Rio Doce e compreende os estados de Minas Gerais e Espírito Santo, possui 31 sub-bacias acima de 4ª odem, com a maior, Rio José Pedro, corresponde a 40% da área da bacia. A cultura cafeeira é predominante na região de cabeceira, ocorrendo uma transição para a pecuária leiteira em direção a foz. Uma das principais atividades ocorrentes na bacia com a participação dos comitês é o cercamento de nascentes e o plantio de espécies nativas. Atividades de proteção das nascentes são importantes ações para promoção da melhora na qualidade de água, sendo necessária a ampliação e distribuições das nascentes protegidas no Rio Manhuaçu. Tais atividades podem ser mais bem conduzidas com o plantio de mudas de qualidade e viveiros próximos ao local de plantio e ampliação das medidas que garantam água em quantidade e qualidade na bacia como forma de manejo integrado. Keywords: Public policies, Watersheds, Environmental management, Rio Doce Basin   Abstratc Manhuaçu river Watershed has an area of 8,805.33 km² and is one of the main sub-basins of the Doce River, comprising the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. The objectives of this work were: (1) to carry out the environmental characterization of the Manhuaçu River watershed and its main sub-watershed; (2) describe activities related to the protection of springs in the Manhuaçu River watershed and propose measures that favor the forest restoration of springs in Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA). An ASTER / DEM mosaic was used, with 30m of spatial resolution and extracted numerical hydrography of the watershed as well as subsequent delimitation of the sub-watersheds above 4th order. Visits to the main sub- watershed were made for better characterization and description. It was observed that the major watershed has 31 sub-watersheds above the 4th order. The largest one is José Pedro River sub-watershed that corresponds to 40% of the total area. Coffee culture is predominant in the river head region, transitioning to dairy farming towards the mouth. Setting up fences and planting native species around springs are some of the main actions in the watershed supported by watershed committees. The protection of springs is an important measure to improve water quality. Therefore, increasing the number of protected springs in the Manhuaçu River watershed is required. Such activities can be better conducted with the planting of quality seedlings and setting up nurseries close to the planting site, as wells as expanding measures that guarantee water in quantity and quality in the watershed as a form of integrated management.

Several studies have been conducted aiming to explore the commercial potential of the macaúba palm. However, research on the hydrological processes of this crop are scarce. Thus, we aimed to quantify the surface runoff in a macaúba plantation subjected to different crop management techniques, from September 2012 toAugust 2013. We established 10 plots for surface runoff quantification; each plot had a 63-m² area, was delimited by metallic foils and had a gallon to collect runoff water at its outlet. Plots consisted of three treatments and three repetitions, plus one control plot, each having four macaúba plants. Treatments were as follows: treatment one (T1) - with no soil conservation technique being implemented; treatment two (T2) - with a narrow-base terrace 40 cm wide and 30 cm deep; treatment three (T3) - with bean being planted during the rainy months, forming vegetation strips; and control treatment (T0) - with no macaúba plants, with spontaneous vegetation growing throughout the entire plot and with no soil conservation technique being implemented. Surface runoff differed among treatments. T2 was the treatment with lowest runoff and also the one that demanded the highest precipitation volume for surface runoff to occur. Our results indicate that both the cover and the use of soil conservation techniques are closely related to surface runoff, which in turn affects the occurrence of erosion and infiltration.

The objective of this chapter is to carry out an analysis of the water quality of six different sites in the Manhuaçu River basin and to propose measures for the saved sites. Changes in land cover occur and can cause degradation of the landscape. Hydrographic data selected by IBGE and IEDE level curves on a scale of 1: 50,000 were used and performed on MDEHC using Arc GIS software. Six different locations were collected in the field in the Manhuaçu River basin in February 2019. The records provided by SAAE Manhuaçu were also used. How the analyzes were evaluated and using a Water Quality Index (IQA) for the saved locations. As sub-basins Córrego Bom Jesus, Rio Manhuaçu and Rio São Luis lowered low values of dissolved oxygen with values of 0.0; 2.3 and 2.5 mg l-1, respectively. Córrego Bom Jesus had the lowest IQA value, followed by Rio Manhuaçu and Rio São Luis with values of 36.69; 44.92 and 47.84 values considered ruins. High levels of pesticides were not detected in surface waters. The product of coffee plantations close to water courses and a potential contamination by pesticides are of concern, and it is necessary to increase a protected area in the riparian zone.
