The development of marinas on the seas, rivers, lakes and canals of Europe occurs in two different forms: (1) as a private investment project, and (2) as an urban municipal investment. Both forms of investment and development of marinas satisfy the criteria of entrepreneurship, which is important for each global and European economy. The purpose of this research is explanation of the possibilities for development of marinas and their immediate and distant destination which supports the development of the local economy. The scientific and research achievements were applied and, for the purpose of transparency, a case study showing several marinas and the examples of two basic models of development are presented. Structurally, this research consists of two parts, namely (1) a theoretical part, where a definition of nautical tourism and its classification are presented and (2) the development of specific indicators of marinas in Europe are explored. http://www.transnav.eu the International Journal on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation Volume 7 Number 3
The world’s cruise corporations regularly purchase large, luxurious cruise ships. In accordance with the Cruise Line International Association, 33 new ocean cruise ships will be available on the market by 2020. These types of capital expenditures are associated with large financial outlays of up to $ 1 billion. The leading cruise corporations are not able to finance purchases of new units with their own resources and therefore look for different solutions. Available publications focus mainly on issues related to purchasing cargo ships, not cruise ships. The objective of the article is to identify sources of funding of new cruise ships. Our analysis identifies the average capital expenditure associated with purchasing new cruise ships and factors that influence it. The most popular methods for raising such capital are also provided. Our research methodology relies on data exploration method, a desk research method and comparative analysis.
In 2018 the cruise ship tourism market generated 35.5 bn USD and in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) the rate of growth is more significant compared to other markets in the world. The figures, provided by Cruise Baltic, prove that in 2018 cruise ships carried 5.8 million passengers, which constitutes 7.7% of the average annual growth in the number of passengers carried within the BSR. The share of cruise ship tourism market in the BSR in the global market, amounts to 11.7 %. The aim of this article is to assess the potential of the BSR regarding the development of cruise ship tourism and to indicate trends for the development of this market. The study included both exploratory method and "desk research" method. In the analysis of the study results the author used quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of the research may constitute interesting study material for the entities directly and indirectly related to the cruise ship tourism market.
Purpose: The study aims to evaluate the insurance packages offered to cruise travellers by cruise ship companies. The following research questions have been raised: 1) What kind of insurance is offered to passengers by cruise ship companies within the tourist package? 2) What is the insurance coverage offered to passengers within the tourist package? Design/Methodology/Approach: A few research methods were applied: literature review, data exploration method, desk research and comparative analysis. Findings: Research revealed lack of publications on cruise travellers' insurance cover. The conducted analysis has indicated that cruise travellers cannot expect compensation from cruise lines in case of cancelled cruise travels in case of pandemic and can only choose cruise travel in a different time, which is frequently unsatisfactory. Practical Implications: The results of the foregoing may constitute an interesting source of information for both the potential cruise travellers, but also tour-operators, cruise shipowners and insurance policy makers. Originality/Value: The review of literature revealed lack of publications regarding the issue of insurance policy applied by cruise lines towards cruise travellers, and the scope of their liability in this respect.
WprowadzenieW ostatnich latach zaobserwowano zjawisko wzrostu zainteresowania wśród turystów udziałem w rejsach polarnych, które do niedawna były zaliczane do segmentu niszowego. Rocznie ponad 1,2 mln turystów bierze udział w morskich rejsach w regionach polarnych (Snyder, 2007, s. 51-70). W efekcie powstały organizacje i stowarzyszenia działające na rzecz ochrony środowiska
