The Chinese western Tianshan high‐pressure/low‐temperature (HP–LT) metamorphic belt, which extends for about 200 km along the South Central Tianshan suture zone, is composed of mainly metabasic blueschists, eclogites and greenschist facies rocks. The metabasic blueschists occur as small discrete blocks, lenses, bands, laminae or thick beds in meta‐sedimentary greenschist facies country rocks. Eclogites are intercalated within blueschist layers as lenses, laminae, thick beds or large massive blocks (up to 2 km2 in plan view). Metabasic blueschists consist of mainly garnet, sodic amphibole, phengite, paragonite, clinozoisite, epidote, chlorite, albite, accessory titanite and ilmenite. Eclogites are predominantly composed of garnet, omphacite, sodic–calcic amphibole, clinozoisite, phengite, paragonite, quartz with accessory minerals such as rutile, titanite, ilmenite, calcite and apatite. Garnet in eclogite has a composition of 53–79 mol% almandine, 8.5–30 mol% grossular, 5–24 mol% pyrope and 0.6–13 mol% spessartine. Garnet in blueschists shows similar composition. Sodic amphiboles include glaucophane, ferro‐glaucophane and crossite, whereas the sodic–calcic amphiboles mainly comprise barroisite and winchite. The jadeite content of omphacite varies from 35–54 mol%. Peak eclogite facies temperatures are estimated as 480–580 °C for a pressure range of 14–21 kbar. The conditions of pre‐peak, epidote–blueschist facies metamorphism are estimated to be 350–450 °C and 8–12 kbar. All rock types have experienced a clockwise P–T  path through pre‐peak lawsonite/epidote‐blueschist to eclogite facies conditions. The retrograde part of the P–T  path is represented by the transition of epidote‐blueschist to greenschist facies conditions. The P–T  path indicates that the high‐pressure rocks formed in a B‐type subduction zone along the northern margin of the Palaeozoic South Tianshan ocean between the Tarim and Yili‐central Tianshan plates.

Carbon dots (CDs) that exhibit emission over the whole visible spectrum are desired for use in light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Here, CDs displaying tunable fluorescence over the whole visible region are synthesized. Different concentrations of CDs are uniformly dispersed in epoxy resin and coated on 405 nm LED chips to obtain monochrome blue, cyan, green, yellow, red, and deep red LEDs that yield a color gamut covering 99.4% of the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) standard. These monochrome LEDs display similar high stability. Furthermore, warm and neutral white LEDs are produced by coating cyan- and red-emitting CD layers on 405 nm LED chips, achieving color-rendering indexes (CRIs) of 96.4 and 96.6, respectively. Two fluorescent conversion layers derived from one material at different concentrations simplify the preparation of high-CRI white LEDs. The uniform weak changes of the cyan and red photoluminescence peaks during operation ensure the high stability of these CD-based white LEDs. This research provides a new avenue to develop low-cost, easy-to-prepare CDs with tunable emission colors as alternative phosphors for LED-based high-performance displays and lighting.

We present an odometry‐free three‐dimensional (3D) point cloud registration strategy for outdoor environments based on area attributed planar patches. The approach is split into three steps. The first step is to segment each point cloud into planar segments, utilizing a cached‐octree region growing algorithm, which does not require the 2.5D image‐like structure of organized point clouds. The second step is to calculate the area of each segment based on small local faces inspired by the idea of surface integrals. The third step is to find segment correspondences between overlapping point clouds using a search algorithm, and compute the transformation from determined correspondences. The transformation is searched globally so as to maximize a spherical correlation‐like metric by enumerating solutions derived from potential segment correspondences. The novelty of this step is that only the area and plane parameters of each segment are employed, and no prior pose estimation from other sensors is required. Four datasets have been used to evaluate the proposed approach, three of which are publicly available and one that stems from our custom‐built platform. Based on these datasets, the following evaluations have been done: segmentation speed benchmarking, segment area calculation accuracy and speed benchmarking, processing data acquired by scanners with different fields of view, comparison with the iterative closest point algorithm, robustness with respect to occlusions and partial observations, and registration accuracy compared to ground truth. Experimental results confirm that the approach offers an alternative to state‐of‐the‐art algorithms in plane‐rich environments.
