The last decade has witnessed growing use of new information and communications technologies designed to strengthen good governance and deepen democracy around the world. E-governance can make governance more efficient and more effective. This paper outlines the three main contributions of e-governance: improving government processes (e-administration); connecting citizens (e-citizens and e-services); and building external interactions (e-society). It shows that e-governance is a current reality for developing countries. Only effective implementation of e-governance can take information and communication technology to the common man, helping national and state governments to align their services with the hanging needs of both citizens and stakeholders, as well as to develop the economy.
