Advanced beyond-silicon electronic technology requires discoveries of both new channel materials and ultralow-resistance contacts 1,2 . Atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have great potential for realizing high-performance electronic devices 1,3 . However, because of metal-induced gap states (MIGS) 4-7 , energy barriers at the metalsemiconductor interface, which fundamentally lead to high contact resistances and poor current-delivery capabilities, have restrained the advancement of 2D semiconductor transistors to date 2,8,9 . Here, we report a novel ohmic contact technology between semimetallic bismuth and semiconducting monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) where MIGS is sufficiently suppressed and degenerate states in the TMD are spontaneously formed in contact with bismuth. Through this approach, we achieve zero Schottky barrier height, a record-low contact resistance (R C ) of 123 Ω μm, and a recordhigh on-state current density (I ON ) of 1135 µA µm -1 on monolayer MoS 2 . We also demonstrate that excellent ohmic contacts can be formed on various monolayer semiconductors, including MoS 2 , WS 2 , and WSe 2 . Our reported R C values are a significant improvement for 2D semiconductors, and approaching the quantum limit. Ethanol, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol have been evaluated as alternative fuels for direct methanol/oxygen fuel cells. The relative product distributions for the electro-oxidation of these alcohols under fuel-cell conditions were determined using on-line mass spectrometry. For water/ethanol mole ratios between 5 and 2, ethanal is the main product, while CQ is a minor product. However, an increase of the water/ethanol mole ratio increased the relative product distribution of CO2 slightly. Propanal was the main product of the electro-oxidation of 1-propanol with a similar percentage of CO2 being formed as for ethanol. In contrast, the electro-oxidation of 2-propanol yielded practically only acetone. Between 150 and 190~ the product distributions for the electro-oxidation of ethanol, l-propanol, and 2-propano] do not depend significantly on the temperature. No differences in the product selectivities of Pt-Ru and Pt-black were found. Ethanol is a promising alternative fuel for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) with an electrochemical activity comparable to that of methanol. Conversely, l-propanol and 2-propanol are not suitable as fuels for DMFCs due to their low electrochemical activity.

A high-efficiency photoelectrode for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) should combine the advantageous features of fast electron transport, slow interfacial electron recombination and large specific surface area. However, these three requirements usually cannot be achieved simultaneously in the present state-of-the-art research. Here we report a simple procedure to combine the three conflicting requirements by using porous SnO(2) nanotube-TiO(2) (SnO(2) NT-TiO(2)) core-shell structured photoanodes for DSSCs. The SnO(2) nanotubes are prepared by electrospinning of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)/tin dichloride dihydrate (SnCl(2)·2H(2)O) solution followed by direct sintering of the as-spun nanofibers. A possible evolution mechanism is proposed. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) value of the SnO(2) NT-TiO(2) core-shell structured DSSCs (∼5.11%) is above five times higher than that of SnO(2) nanotube (SnO(2) NT) DSSCs (∼0.99%). This PCE value is also higher than that of TiO(2) nanoparticles (P25) DSSCs (∼4.82%), even though the amount of dye molecules adsorbed to the SnO(2) NT-TiO(2) photoanode is less than half of that in the P25 film. This simple procedure provides a new approach to achieve the three conflicting requirements simultaneously, which has been demonstrated as a promising strategy to obtain high-efficiency DSSCs.

BackgroundSocial media is increasingly used to deliver HIV interventions for key populations worldwide. However, little is known about the specific uses and effects of social media on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) interventions.ObjectiveThis systematic review examines the effectiveness of social media interventions to promote HIV testing, linkage, adherence, and retention among key populations.MethodsWe used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist and Cochrane guidelines for this review and registered it on the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews, PROSPERO. We systematically searched six databases and three conference websites using search terms related to HIV, social media, and key populations. We included studies where (1) the intervention was created or implemented on social media platforms, (2) study population included men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender individuals, people who inject drugs (PWID), and/or sex workers, and (3) outcomes included promoting HIV testing, linkage, adherence, and/or retention. Meta-analyses were conducted by Review Manager, version 5.3. Pooled relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals were calculated by random-effects models.ResultsAmong 981 manuscripts identified, 26 studies met the inclusion criteria. We found 18 studies from high-income countries, 8 in middle-income countries, and 0 in low-income countries. Eight were randomized controlled trials, and 18 were observational studies. All studies (n=26) included MSM; five studies also included transgender individuals. The focus of 21 studies was HIV testing, four on HIV testing and linkage to care, and one on antiretroviral therapy adherence. Social media interventions were used to do the following: build online interactive communities to encourage HIV testing/adherence (10 studies), provide HIV testing services (9 studies), disseminate HIV information (9 studies), and develop intervention materials (1 study). Of the studies providing HIV self-testing, 16% of participants requested HIV testing kits from social media platforms. Existing social media platforms such as Facebook (n=15) and the gay dating app Grindr (n=10) were used most frequently. Data from four studies show that HIV testing uptake increased after social media interventions (n=1283, RR 1.50, 95% CI 1.28-1.76). In the studies where social media interventions were participatory, HIV testing uptake was higher in the intervention arm than the comparison arm (n=1023, RR 1.64, 95% CI 1.19-2.26).ConclusionsSocial media interventions are effective in promoting HIV testing among MSM in many settings.
