Segundo Dewey e Mannheim, a educação possibilita ao indivíduo atuar na sociedade sem reproduzir, acriticamente, experiências anteriores; na verdade, essas experiências serão avaliadas de forma crítica, com o intuito principal de modificar seu comportamento e, desta maneira, produzir mudanças sociais.Para Dewey, não é possível separar a educação do mundo da vida: "a educação não é preparação nem conformidade. Educação é vida, é viver, é desenvolver, é crescer." (1971, p.29) Para Mannheim, por sua vez, a educação é uma técnica social que tem como fim o controle da natureza e da história do homem e da sociedade, a partir de uma perspectiva democrática. Segundo o pensador, educação é "o processo de socialização dos indivíduos para uma sociedade harmoniosa, democrática, porém controlada, planejada, mantida pelos próprios indivíduos que a compõe." (MANNHEIM, 1971, p.34) Tanto Dewey quanto Mannheim entendem educação e democracia como parte de uma totalidade; ambos entendem que a prática democrática surge horizontalmente de modo a permitir a estruturação de uma sociedade igualitária. Dewey, inclusive, define a escola como uma micro comunidade democrática; seria, portanto, um esboço da socialização democrática e um ponto de partida para reforçar a democratização da sociedade. EDUCAÇÃO E SOCIEDADE: EQUALIZAÇÃO, REPRODUÇÃO E TRANSFORMAÇÃOComo visto anteriormente, a educação é maculada por sentidos, conceitos, valores e finalidades. Posto isto, cabe perguntar: qual o sentido e valor da educação na sociedade? Como uma se relaciona com a outra? A resposta desta questão nos conduz para uma compreensão da educação e seus direcionamentos.Para alguns, a educação é responsável pela direção da sociedade, uma vez que ela é capaz de conduzir a vida social, salvando-a da situação em que se encontra. Para outros, a educação reproduz a sociedade como ela está; há, ainda, aqueles que compreendem a educação como uma instância mediadora de uma forma de entender e viver a sociedade, de maneira que a transformação social possa ser pautada.
Este trabalho tem por objetivo compreender como as comunidades negras da costa Pacífica da Colômbia constroem uma memória coletiva e seu sentimento de pertença. Parte-se, dos conceitos de Halbwaschs, que com sua obra a Memoria Coletiva, rompe com o paradigma que considerava a memória como algo individual. Este conceito é estudado por outros autores os quais conseguiram ir além do Halbwaschs, mostrando que a memória é um instrumento de poder, mas que também é um instrumento que reconhece a existência de outras memórias, que Polak tem chamado de subterrâneas. Os conceitos de memória coletiva e subterrânea permitem dar uma explicação aos processos de reconhecimento da população negra do Pacífico colombiano, como ‘comunidades negras’. O qual tem permitido o reconhecimento étnico-territorial desta população na Colômbia.
Este artigo pretende fazer uma leitura do Pacifico colombiano, desde os elementos que constituem a paisagem cultural, na medida, em que se desenvolve uma crítica ao conceito frequentemente utilizado de região, o qual, não responde ou não dá resposta às dinâmicas culturais e simbólicas que aí se tecem. Pois o Pacifico quando restrito a um recorte reduzido como região natural, empobrece seus elementos ecossistêmicos e culturais. Portanto, se propõe nesse estudo apresentar exemplos que embasam a paisagem cultural como categoria de analise, permitido a ampliação do estudo das relações e processos de transformação decisivos na composição simbólica intra-regional. Especialmente entre as comunidades negras e floresta úmida tropical.
