En este artículo se aborda un corpus de robinsonadas del siglo XVIII a la luz de la noción de laboriosidad, que Lukács desarrolla en “La novela” (1934). La categoría de trabajo está en el centro de estas novelas y la laboriosidad es el atributo básico de sus héroes, los Robinsones. El que todos los Robinsones sean protestantes y que su trabajo pueda ser calificado, con Marx, como no alienado, son las dos manifestaciones de aquel concepto clave que serán estudiadas.
El objetivo de este trabajo es indagar acerca de los diversos modos en los que la compleja tensión entre nacionalismo y cosmopolitismo se resuelven en el proyecto goetheano de la Weltliteratur, uno de los primeros intentos deliberados por forjar una disciplina abocada a pensar la literatura en términos que universales, reconocido como el puntapié inicial para la génesis de las Literaturas comparadas, y en los manifiestos de Acta Comparationis Litterarum Universarum (1877-1888) escritos por filólogo y germanista húngaro Hugo Metzl, en la que se convertiría en la primera revista académica dedicada a las Literaturas comparadas. Asimismo se compararán las políticas con respecto a la traducción e intercambio literario propuestas en los textos programáticos de Goethe y Metzl. Finalmente, se procurará explicar el pasaje del concepto “literatura mundial” a “literaturas comparadas” como un intento por prevenir las tendencias homogeneizantes a nivel cultural latentes ya a fines del siglo XIX.
La edad del pavo (1805), de Jean Paul, puede ser leída como una respuesta al Wilhelm Meister (1795/1796), como la obra de un lector irreverente que oscila entre el homenaje y la parodia. Escrita diez años después de la publicación del Meister, en la novela de Jean Paul se preservan elementos propios de la literatura ilustrada, que reenvían al lector a modelos literarios del pasado, pero estos se mezclan con procedimientos transgresores, que esbozan una nueva forma, muy cercana a las proyecciones schlegelianas acerca de lo que debía ser la novela romántica. El resultado de esta indeterminación es una obra que esboza una estética de la transición, que se verifica también en una serie de motivos literarios ligados al concepto de lo In between. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar estas imágenes de lo In between para considerar el particular modo en el que Jean Paul se posiciona entre medio de dos grandes tendencias literarias: Ilustración y Romanticismo.
