SAMENVATTING Deze studie beschrijft de verdere ontwikkeling van een nieuwe vragenlijst voor burnout: de BurnOut-Neurasthenie Klachten Schaal (BO-NKS). De BO-NKS is oorspronkelijk opgezet met als doel de ernst van klinische burn-out (werkgerelateerde neurasthenie) te meten. In dit onderzoek ligt de nadruk op het nader vaststellen van de psychometrische kwaliteiten van de BO-NKS. Aan de hand van itemanalyses en een factoranalyse werd de vragenlijst teruggebracht naar 15 items, verdeeld over drie schalen: onrust, uitputting en lichamelijk ongemak. De testbetrouwbaarheid van de schalen bleek goed tot zeer goed (tussen de .77 en .92). De convergente validiteit bleek vooral in de richting van distress met daarnaast uitputting en somatisatie te wijzen. De BO-NKS kon de mensen met burn-out echter niet onderscheiden van de mensen met een andere psychische stoornis. Geconcludeerd wordt dat de psychometrische eigenschappen van de BO-NKS weliswaar goed zijn, maar dat de BO-NKS onvoldoende specifiek burn-out meet. De schaal is niet in staat klinische burn-out te detecteren, als zoiets al bestaat. De BO-NKS lijkt vooral een maat voor psychische klachten in het algemeen.DR. M.J.P.M.
