Escorregamentos em áreas urbanas são um problema ambiental que afeta socioeconomicamente a população residente. No Brasil, a região Sudeste é palco constante deste processo. Uma das tipologias de movimentos de massa mais recorrentes é a de escorregamentos translacionais, o qual também se manifesta em Vitória/ES. Em função disto analisou-se as áreas de suscetibilidade a escorregamentos translacionais na bacia de drenagem de Fradinhos, através do modelo SHALSTAB, levando em consideração o zoneamento definido pelo Plano Diretor Urbano de Vitória/ES e das classes de uso e cobertura da terra. As áreas de mais alta suscetibilidade estão associadas, principalmente, com as Zonas de Proteção Ambiental (ZPA) e Especiais de Interesse Social (ZEIS). A ZPA ocupa a maior área da bacia (76,3%) e tem as maiores frequências relativas entre todos os níveis de suscetibilidade a escorregamentos, com destaque para baixa e média (31,3% e 24,2%, respectivamente). A ZEIS tem suscetibilidade a escorregamentos variando entre baixa e incondicionalmente instável, com predominância desta última classe, com 1,9% da área total da bacia. Faz-se necessário limitar a expansão urbana para as encostas da bacia de drenagem de Fradinhos, já que a expansão urbana pode contribuir para o aumento das áreas de instabilidade.
