La familia es el escenario más importante para el desarrollo armónico de los adolescentes, cuestión de gran relevancia en la cambiante sociedad actual. Para que la familia cumpla las funciones que se le atribuyen histórica y socialmente, requiere un adecuado funcionamiento, el que se ha asociado con el desarrollo de cualidades y comportamientos específicos en los adolescentes. El presente estudio tiene por objetivo analizar el estado actual del conocimiento en torno al funcionamiento familiar y sus efectos en la adolescencia. Para ello se desarrolló una revisión sistemática de artículos originales en idioma español, en el periodo de 2017-2022, basada en la metodología PRISMA, publicados en las bases de datos Dialnet, ScieLo, Scopus, Redalyc, OpenAIRE y OJS/PKP. Para ello se trazó una estrategia de búsqueda con descriptores y criterios de inclusión y exclusión para cribar la muestra y seleccionar los estudios más relevantes, a los que se les aplicó la guía STROBE para evaluar el riesgo de sesgo. Para el análisis de la información obtenida se empleó la metodología mixta. Quedaron seleccionados 16 estudios que se agruparon por líneas temáticas y se identificaron las variables asociadas al funcionamiento familiar de mayor significación. Se concluye que el funcionamiento familiar es un elemento esencial, que tiene un efecto comprobado como protector y como riesgo para el desarrollo integral de los adolescentes.
