This paper gathers a tight synthesis of some of the conceptual problems that are directly related with the development of service to gifted students in the Spanish education system, preferably non-university. Thus, it seems essential to focus on the theoretical approach of the preeminent models in the most relevant scientific literature that allow us to get a minimum operational conceptualization of the concepts of ability and talent. On the other hand, the problems derived from identification and its evident deficit in public and private schools are analyzed. Some considerations to relevant identification models based on the “out of level” measures are given particular attention for their methodological and practical importance and for having been implemented by the author for years in Spain.
The differential characteristics of gifted students can make them vulnerable to cyberbullying. There is very little empirical evidence about cyberbullying and giftedness. In the Spanish context, it is unexplored. The main goal of this work is to determine the prevalence of cyberbullying, its distribution in the different roles, and its relationship with other psychological variables. A cross-sectional study was performed with 255 gifted students (M = 11.88 years, SD = 2.28 years) in Spain (155 males, 60.8%). We used the cyberbullying test and the Spanish versions of the DASS-21, ISEL, KIDSCREEN-10, and the SWLS. The results indicate that 25.1% of the students are pure-cybervictims, 3.9% pure-cyberbullies, and 6.6% cyberbully-victims. Pure-cybervictims and cyberbully-victims present worse scores (p < 0.001) in health-related quality of life, depression, life satisfaction and stress than the uninvolved individuals. The results suggest that the gifted sample presents more cybervictimization and less cyberbullying than observed in other studies of the general population.
The role of Europe is extraordinary. It was dominant during the sixth through first centuries BCE, an equal partner with China and India for another five centuries, and overwhelmingly dominant from 1500 to 1899.. .. to unprecedented heights of accomplishments in every domain of human endeavour. We need to understand why.
An initial diagnosis of some educational and psychological capacities of students on arrival at university were studied. This enabled us to find out what factors had a greater influence on academic achievement at the end of the first year. U sing the techniques of multiple regression we established the optimal achievement performances expected from each of the students. Secondary school marks, the academic achievement tests and the intermediate examinations at university were the best set of predictors of academic performance. Differential aptitudes of intelligence increase considerably the accuracy of the prediction. Values of R of between 0.71 to 0.88 were reached depending on the criteria used. The usefulness of the prediction equations as a tool for increasing personalized attention to students is pointed out and a case made for the establishment of objective mechanisms for admission to higher education.
