Although many military jobs are similar to those in the civilian world, the work environment for military personnel is often drastically different. This is due to many unique stressors associated with combat deployment, such as fellow soldiers' injuries and death, sleep deprivation, and high levels of uncertainty. Military personnel also face many unique postdeployment stressors, such as difficult reunions with spouses and children due to longterm and frequent separations, mental health problems, and injuries (hoge et al., 2004;Park, 2011). The presence of these unique stressors, coupled with the fact that the modern military has faced more frequent deployments into combat situations than ever before, suggests that the concept of resilience is particularly important. given the potential importance of resilience, it is important to understand what military organizations need to do in order to increase resilience among soldiers.
