THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN MARIJUANA USE AND SOCIAL SKILLS DEFICIT IN ADOLESCENTSThe purpose of this article is to present a comparative study based on the description of the data from a social skills evaluation in a sample of adolescents. The sample consisted of 30 adolescent subjects, 15 were marijuana users and 15 were non-users. The findings suggest that the aspect with the greatest deficit in the population of marijuana users was their selfcontrol of aggressiveness in aversive situations, and the inability to deal with feelings and reactions that arise in those situations. One factor that contributes with the substance use is having family members that also use drugs.
Objectives To study the association of different components of physical fitness [flexibility, muscle strength and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF)] and a clustered fitness score with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to analyze whether participants with high fitness level have better HRQoL. Methods This cross-sectional study included 70 women with SLE (aged 42.5; SD 13.9 years). The back-scratch test assessed flexibility, the 30-sec chair stand and handgrip strength tests assessed muscle strength, and the 6-min walk test ( n = 49) assessed CRF. HRQoL was assessed through the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). Results Flexibility was positively associated with the physical function dimension and the physical component summary (PCS) (r partial between 0.26 and 0.31; p <0.05), and negatively related with social functioning dimension (r partial = -0.26; p <0.05). Muscle strength was positively associated with the physical function, physical role, bodily pain dimensions and the PCS (r partial between 0.27 and 0.49; all p <0.05). CRF was positively associated with the physical function and bodily pain dimensions, and PCS (r partial between 0.39 and 0.65; all p <0.05). The clustered fitness score was associated with the physical function ( B = 17.16) and bodily pain ( B = 14.35) dimensions, and the PCS ( B = 6.02), all p <0.005. Patients with high fitness level had greater scores in the physical function, physical role, and bodily pain dimensions and the PCS, all p ≤0.05. Conclusions Our study suggests that muscle strength and CRF are positively associated with HRQoL, while flexibility showed contradictory results. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining adequate fitness levels in women with SLE.
This study aims at presenting the psychometric properties of the Young Schema Questionnaire -short form (YSQ-S2). Method: We conducted a quantitative study, cross-sectional comparing a clinical with a non-clinical group and Cronbach's alpha, t test Student and Discriminant Analysis were used to analyze the results. The sample consisted of 107 subjects, 51 alcoholics and 56 non-alcoholics. Results: Statistically significant differences were found in the five areas and the 15 schemes assessed by the YSQ-S2 questionnaire when comparing the clinical and non-clinical groups. Conclusion: YSQ-S2 was found to be an instrument that can detect differences between clinical and non-clinical populations, its use being essential for a deeper assessment of the patient's personality.
Objective : The aim was to develop and establish the psychometric properties of the Pandemic-Related Pregnancy Stress Scale (PREPS) in European Spanish speaking pregnant women in Spain. Design : A cross section design using a non-random sample of 206 women completed the questionnaire during the first COVID-19 pandemic lockdown from April to June 2020 in Spain. Psychological, sociodemographic and obstetric factors and the new PREPS were collected. Results : Bartlett's test of sphericity (χ 2 (105) = 580.36, p < .001), and KMO = .79 confirmed appropriateness for factor analysis of the PREPS. Confirmatory factor analyses based on the factor structure of the original USA English version of this instrument confirmed three factors - Preparedness Stress (7 items), Perinatal Infection Stress (5 items), and Positive Appraisal (3 items). The 15-item version of the PREPS demonstrates internal consistency and reliability are adequate (α > .77), and for F1 - Preparedness (α > .65), for F2 - Infection (α > 0.60) and for F3 - Positive appraisal (α > .55). The three factors exhibited good inter-item correlations, (F1 – Preparedness: .21; F2 – Infection: .23, and F3 – Positive Appraisal: .29). Convergent validity was examined through the Pearson's correlation coefficients of the PREPS with the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Prenatal Distress Questionnaire (PDQ). Correlation between PREPS total and PSS was high, and moderate with PDQ (p < .05). Conclusion : The psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the PREPS make it a valuable psychological measure to assess pandemic-related stress among pregnant women.
