Chia ( Salvia hispanica ) is an annual oilseed crop of high nutritional value. This study aimed to analyze the performance of chia plants sown at different times and grown under different phosphorus rates. The experiment was conducted under field conditions at the Experimental Farm of the State University of Maringá, Umuarama, Brazil. Treatments were arranged in a randomized split-plot design with three replications. Phosphorus fertilizer was applied at the time of sowing at rates of 0, 40, 80, or 120 kg P 2 O 5 ha −1 . Seeds were sown on four dates at 14-day intervals, starting on March 21, 2017, for the first crop and March 29, 2018, for the second crop. Plant population density, raceme number, shoot dry matter yield, thousand seed weight, seed yield, and seed oil content were determined. It was observed that the end of March is the borderline for chia cultivation, because the low temperature and rainfall conditions occurring after this period compromise chia growth. The best phosphorous rate for chia growth was 80–120 kg ha −1 , which led to optimum vegetative parameters.

Pimenta rosa.ABSTRACT: Essential oils (EOs) are secondary metabolites that may present potential for an alternative control of nematodes. The purpose of this study was to test the EO of pink peppercorn in the control of P. zeae under in-vitro conditions and in the maize crop. Essential Oil was extracted by hydro-distillation using fresh leaf mass and mature fruits. The invitro experiment was installed in an 8x2 factorial arrangement, with eight concentrations (0.00, 7.8, 15.0, 31.0, 62.0, 125.0, 250.0 and 500.0 μg mL -1 ) and EO from leaves and fruits. The experimental units were 5-mL test tubes containing 1 mL of each concentration and 1 mL of suspension of 50 nematodes. The mortality percentage was evaluated after 48 hours. The greenhouse experiment was installed in a 5x2 factorial arrangement, with five concentrations (0.00, 7.8, 15.0, 31.0 and 62.0 μg mL -1 ) and EOs (leaves and fruits). The experimental units consisted of 1.5-kg capacity vases, which were inoculated with 2000 and 1800 nematodes, and seeded with corn seeds treated with EO concentrations. The EOs and concentrations evaluated presented a mortality percentage under the in-vitro conditions and reduced the P. zeae population in the greenhouse, while t...
Beans are grown in different regions of the country, with an estimated average national production of 1.3 million tons in 2018. Their production is affected by nutrient deficiency, disease and / or soil acidity. One way to improve the use of agricultural inputs is to use silicates that are sources of silicon. Observing the importance of calcium silicate in crops of economic interest, the objective was to evaluate different doses of calcium silicate in the development of black beans. The experiment was carried out in pots with a capacity of 2,5 L filled with a typical dystrophic Red Latosol, with acidic pH around 3.88 cmolc / dm3 according to chemical analysis, where 0, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90% calcium silicate under greenhouse conditions. The bean was harvested after 45 days, where it was verified the fresh mass of the shoot, fresh root mass, root length, plant height, aerial dry mass. The data were submitted to the Tukey test at 5% significance level. From the parameters evaluated fresh shoot mass, fresh root mass, shoot dry mass and plant height showed significant results the application of calcium silicate from the 60% dose, thus demonstrating its importance for the vegetative development of the bean crop.
