O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a eficácia da aplicação de um programa de intervenção em consciência fonológica a cinco estudantes com queixa de dificuldades de aprendizagem da leitura nos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental em uma escola particular da cidade de Guarapuava, PR. A metodologia adotada na pesquisa foi de intervenção com análise qualitativa exploratória na perspectiva da psicologia cognitiva da leitura. Foi aplicado um programa de intervenção com 40 sessões em grupo para as 5 crianças, com a duração de aproximadamente de 50 minutos cada. Os participantes deste estudo receberam instrução em consciência fonológica e leitura com ênfase no ensino dos nomes e sons das letras. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que todos os participantes obtiveram avanços na decodificação, fluência, velocidade e compreensão da leitura de palavras. Esses achados estão de acordo com pesquisas que mostram que os programas de intervenção em consciência fonológica melhoram o desempenho em leitura de crianças com dificuldades de aprendizagem. Conclui-se que o ensino fonológico com ênfase nas relações entre os fonemas e grafemas pode ser eficiente na superação das dificuldades de aprendizagem da leitura e escrita.
