In the aftermath of World War II, a devastated Europe saw the establishment of the European Brewery Convention (EBC). Founded in 1947 to unite brewmasters and foster their cooperation, the organization has been an important element in retaining and increasing brewers’ knowledge. This chapter documents the evolution of the EBC Congress in relation to scientific research, the organization’s growth, and scientific cooperation between the 1947 and 2017 editions, as well as comparing the general trends in association meetings. The information exchange from brewers’ research and development at international meetings, as well as data showing the attendance and composition of delegates, has been fundamental for the economic development of the brewing industry, and the various figures may be correlated with national and international trends characterizing the dynamic evolution of the beer sector over the course of seventy years.
